security alarm installer as career

Anyone done security alarm installer program or working in the industry? Any jobs and what pros and cons of industry
Some.ppl say no need learn security alarm as it just plug and play
Im thinking its cleaner than plumbing n also lighter

There is a career in it. OrgasmDonor on the forum has been an installer for years. Recently he moved on to installing sirens and what not on vehicles. But imo, it's a dying business. Most cars these days have good alarms/ starters included so it's not really needed for the regular consumer. I can only see this useful for bigger fleet companies.

Depending on your life situation eg do you have a job already lined up?

I would say going for an electrician qualification would probably be better than an alarm installer.. at least you get a wider career field.

In my opinion, it is not a bad job as you mentioned its light and will be clean. Pay wise im not sure but it wont be as much as plumber i believe.

If you do decide to persue this path, the field will branch out to home automation, theatres, low voltage wiring, central vacuums and many more. It is rapidly changing as automation is becoming a huge thing nowadays so there is a lot of potential there and you can take it as far as you want.

I dont advise becoming an electrician at the moment because there are too many right now (you cant even register at bcit anymore) and instead if you want to start a trade i would advise becoming a plumber because of money and demand.

Im in the field since 2011. Gradded the bcit security alarm course, taught by Pete and Mike. The course is excellent as it's 50% theory and 50% practical, and at the end, it's a mandatory practicum. The company may or may not hire you after depends on how busy they are and your performance. Most of my classmates and myself was hired after practicum. The goal in this industry is to get your tq and fsr. Wages are around $15 to $40/hour depending what stage you are at.

This career can lead into many paths. You can get into residential new construction and renovations. Commercial new construction and service. Commercial fire alarms, or even a shaw and Telus tech.

Currently I'm working for local company that installs and service new residential construction. We have people that does the rough-in work. (Not my cup of tea) but it has to be done so I can install and Progam later on . It's definitely lighter than a electrician doing pre-wire. I usually come into the scene after painting. Before when I was starting out. My job tasks consists of security alarms, CCTV camera system, tv/tel/data networks, central vac, audio/video, home theatre, intercoms. It's ok at the time , but recently smart homes came into the picture. And I moved onto the automation side. On a daily basis now , I focus on Control4 automation and savant. Mainly installing and programming lighting control, audio / video / smart locks, thermostats / blinds and shades, gate control.
