Chevron Sells Everything and Pulls out of Canada

I've been calling this for over a year now and it finally happened!! All the fuel will the same and the station's won't be rebranded since Parkland already owns half of the retail stations which have been purchased over the past 5 years.

Chevron Corp. agreed to sell the Burnaby refinery and gas stations in British Columbia to Parkland Fuel Corp. for about C$1.46 billion ($1.1 billion) as Chief Executive Officer John Watson unloads assets.

The sale includes 129 retail service stations, 37 commercial cardlock and three marine fueling locations, Red Deer, Alberta-based Parkland said in a statement Tuesday. Parkland also is picking up terminals throughout British Columbia and a wholesale business that provides aviation fuel to Vancouver International Airport.

The sale is part of Watson’s plan to raise as much as $10 billion from asset sales this year. The company has been marketing everything from Asian oil fields to African storage facilities to generate cash. For Parkland, the deal complements the 44 Chevron-branded sites it has in the province, and builds on the $750 million acquisition of CST Brands Inc.’s Canadian assets that it expects to complete this quarter.

Shares of San Ramon, California-based Chevron were little changed at $105.61 at 4:33 p.m. in late trading in New York. Parkland fell 0.7 percent to C$28.86 in regular trading in Toronto, before the stock was halted pending the announcement.

Damn! Does that mean I cannot fill up my car with Techron anymore?
:heckno:

murd0c 04-18-2017 08:34 PM

everything will still be the same with the fuel 94 and techron since the brand isn't changing. Parkland owns the rights for 95% of the independent ESSO stations and all the Fas Gas stations as well.

Chevron USA has been wanting to pull out for the past 10 years so its been a long process

Good thing I never waited that long to pull out or I'd have a hundred kids by now

It's good to know that nothing on the actual fuel side of things will change. It would really suck if we lose the last common and easily available brand of 94 octane gas.

On the other hand, Chevron USA's desires to withdraw from the retail gasoline market raises a few questions in my head. The biggest question of them all is -- is their decision / desire an indication of their views towards the future outlook of the ICE (internal combustion engine)?

Literally me right now while drinking coke, was not expecting.

AzNightmare 04-20-2017 05:35 PM

Oh good. For a second, thought we were not gonna have 94 octane anymore.

That being said... I'm gonna go on a road trip to Alberta soon. Which stations have 94 over there?

Calgary's Petro Canada has 94 octane gas. Also note that Alberta has no Chevron retail gas stations, but they do have a small number of commercial card stations for commercial vehicles / accounts.

In Alberta it will be Petrocan, Husky and maybe Mohawk . Not all stations will have 94.

You mean as in like, even though Petrocan, Husky, and Mohawk generally has 94, not all of them will?

That makes it rather tricky to plan...

Yep. Petrocan lists 2 in Alberta.

Petro-Canada | Locations | Gas Stations - Convenience Store, Car Wash, Locations

That's why I don't think people should tune there cars for 94 oct.

Traum 04-21-2017 12:13 AM

^^ That list doesn't seem to be right, even though it is straight off Petro Canada's website. When I was in Calgary last summer, I have visited at least 3 Petro Canada stations at random, and all 3 happened to have Ultra 94.

Of course, that was last summer, and things can certainly have changed. But even then that seems a bit fast.

My bad. I selected Utra 94 and super clean 94. If pick only one it shows a lot more.

Ultra 94

Super clean 94

Petro-Canada | Locations | Gas Stations - Convenience Store, Car Wash, Locations

No idea what the difference is.

SuperClean contains up to 15% ethanol and additional detergents.

Ultra contains up to 10% ethanol.

Also, Ultra 94 is only available at select Petro-Canada™ locations in Ontario and Alberta. SuperClean94™ is Petro-Canada’s 94 octane fuel available only in Montreal.

AzNightmare 04-21-2017 07:21 AM

If I'm tuned for Chevron 94, Ultra94 is sufficient? Assuming SuperClean is the superior one?

cl811 04-25-2017 01:55 PM

The retail fuels business has incredibly low margins due to ultra-low cost providers like Costco or Superstore... Chevron makes more money on the upstream side.

Do you foresee yourself driving under high engine loads, esp for extended periods of time?

If it is mostly just highway cruising, I wouldn't worry too much about it. But the only way to know for sure is to keep an eye out for knock via your OBD2.

R. Mutt 04-26-2017 03:12 AM

For what it's worth Shell 91 is pretty close to what Chevron called "94". If you're really adamant about running 94 or higher octane, grab some ethanol from new west and add a little to your gas on each fill up

bcrdukes 04-26-2017 05:17 AM

For those of you who are running on 94 Chevron on tuned ECUs, this thread (albeit old) is a good read.

So which gas station is available in every province? I'm thinking of doing a possible cross country, and I'd rather be consistent and use the same gas station all the time.
