Opinion need. 2013 Ford F150 FX or 2014 Ram 1500 SLT hey Revscene truck peeps need your opinion here deciding if i should get a 2013 Ford F-150 FX with a 3.5 L eco boost or a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 v8 question here is whats your review on the 3.5 ecoboost engine? any run ins or bad lemons? thanks! |
2009 + Rams are prone to water leaks from factory(rear slider, 3rd brake light, sometimes windshield), no recalls on this so far. RAM is having a 25% off MSRP event to remove all stock. I would really suggest checking them out. Anyone who walks in breathing can get 25% off and it doesn't take much to get extra discount. The best bang for the buck is a well equipped 1500 Sport for well under $45k brand spanking new. The RAM drives much better than the new F150s IMO. |
If my 2013 fx4 never got hit i would still be driving that baby, those fx4 trucks are flawless. great options and a great price for what you get. My bro has a plat with eco boost and he loves it. Never had any issues, drives very smooth. |
My old man has a 2014 Ecoboost FX4, no major issues to date. He's already got the full AFE Intake, exhaust, bigger intercooler and SCT tuner waiting to go in as soon as his warranty's up... Can't wait to see how it goes. |
I've got 16' Ram. No complaints so far, prefer having the v8 over the v6 but realistically they're both great engines. The v8 is pretty loud in stock form on the ram. |
Personally I prefer the Ford F-150 I think its a better built and more reliable truck. Also has been number one for many many years. The only Dodge Ram I might consider is the New Eco Diesel But thats a new model. I find the rams are like mustangs and every kid in town has one... lol Maybe cause there cheap and affordable.....lol |
The 2013 F150 is the last year of essentially a truck that has been refined since 2004. They are super reliable and established. The Ecoboost is also an incredible motor, but the 5.7 hemi is also a strong motor. |

I was looking between a 2015 F-150 and 2015 Ram, I ended up with the Ram. I liked the exterior looks more, the interior quality was better/more comfortable, and the driving experience was better. Yes, it can't haul as much, yes it's slower, but I was happier with the Ram. Fuel economy wasn't too bad, the 8-speed helps a lot during highway cruising and it was a very smooth and dependable transmission. The sound was much better on the Ram with the dual exhaust, and the Hemi V8 sounds better than the Coyote 5.0 IMO. Unless you tow lots or spend a lot of time on the highway, I'd get a V8 over a turbo - less complicated, and less likely to get carbon deposits etc. from not enough load/high RPM running. Direct injection still has issues sometimes, so do beware of that. I sold my Ram. I miss it a lot. :( |
Get a Tundra. 160,000 km on mine, and I've only changed the tires, brakes, and fluids. It's been the best truck I've every owned, and I've had everything from Ford to Chevy, to Dodge (biggest POS ever). I can't wait to hit 180,000 and I am going to buy a new one. #justmyopinion #endthread |
I like the power and surprisingly good fuel economy of the ram 1500, the drivetrain is reliable. I took one on a road/camping trip and it worked perfectly. |
i have a 2013 fx4 that i bought new with the ecoboost. i've had plenty of issues all covered under warranty. the biggest was tearing the motor apart to replace the timing chain and tensioner and all the cam phasers. but i've also had ongoing issues with the remote keyless/start system which the dealer was never able to solve mainly b/c they could never recreate the issue even though i had like 10 videos of the system not working. over all the truck had done what i need it to which is haul 2000+lbs and tow 8000 lbs but i wouldn't say it's been flawless. only have 50k on the truck i get 20.2l/100 and thats 90% city |

When I did research on the ecoboost they had problems with the brake booster failing and the turbos blowing seals (newer ones are better) I went with the V8 on a 2015 F150 XLT/FX4, Paid $42k for it and just sold it 2 years & 67,000kms later for $33,800 The problem with used trucks right now is buyers from the States are keeping prices strong (my buyer was from USA) so I would recommend new & sub 4% financing for 84 months |
Actually one gripe I have with the 1500 is how soft the rear suspension is. Now for 95% of people who own a truck and don't actually use the bed, this is perfectly fine and preferable. But if you put anything more than a couple hundred pounds you're gonna feel it. And I think my blower fan is on it's way out, it's getting loud. |

I had a 2010 Tacoma before my 2014 FX4. The Taco was a great truck but basic as fuck. I do feel like it would have lasted longer than my F150 though. They have great resale value as well. As for features it doesn't compare to the FX4, I couldn't even get heated mirrors for fuck sakes. |
+1 for the Tundra. I've got a 2011 and its been more or less flawless over the years. I'm a Carpenter/Contractor so I beat the shit out of my truck. It usually has around a 1000 pounds in the bed and I regularly tow with it. I've also taken it all over BC during massive snowstorms to washboard logging roads in the summer. Its never failed me. |
i think the issue with Tundra vs F150/1500 is that you aren't actually paying buckets of money more for the nav, heated and cooled leather, sunroof, and the rest of the creature comforts. sticker prices aside, out the door price on a mid level tundra is the same as a well equipped domestic. but ive got a 17 F350 lariat ultimate. its bells and whistles have bells and whistles. big sticker price but its both my DD and my main revenue generator :fuckyea: |

I think most of hypa's points about the domestic trucks are from previous models. The previous gen f150 with the 5.4 and 4spd auto were piles of junk. That trans wasnt good for much of anything and don't even get me started on the motor... These newer trucks with the 5.0 and 6spd are pretty damn dependable. Mines got 104k on it now and it still purrs like the way it did when it was new and the trans still shifts strong. I always take my truck on random trips up the s2s to Pemby and even further. Doesn't break a sweat! I'm also well aware of the dependability of a Toyota. My parents drive a 2001 sienna they've had since new and it's currently got about 330k on it. Still runs like a top and we've done nothing to that van but basic maintenance. That being said, I also checked out tundras and tacos before I bought my f150. I just couldn't stomach the high sticker for a seemingly base model truck. The sr5 quad cab taco I looked at was $35k. Had cloth seats and the only real extra option in it was the 6disc changer.. And snowflakes? Pfft, calm down gramps.. Say whatever you want, having a warm bum in the winter is fucking dope! |
