| CNN doxxes reddit user then bullies him into withdrawal with threat of exposure
This might have been posted in the Trump thread but I think it deserves its own thread.
User "HanAholeSolo" creates an animation of Trump beating up Vince McMahon with a CNN logo placed over his face:
CNN discovers his identity, contacts him
They tell him if he doesn't take it down and apologize, they will reveal his identity
They post a story about it on their main page:  Quote:
"After posting his apology, "HanAholeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanAholeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.
CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change."
| From all the "Trump stuff" that has happened since the election, this to me is the most fucked up story of all. A massive media conglomerate is bullying a private citizen into withdrawal from the internet because he made a silly image with their logo.
USA has officially turned into a South Park episode 
And before anyone says, it doesn't matter if this kid is an alt-right retard or whatever. This is totally unacceptable no matter what side each is on.

Undoubtedly, it is shameful for a massive media giant such as CNN to bully the Reddit user into apologizing and retracting his satire. Unfortunately, however, I don't think the story is going to gain enough coverage or traction in the media world to actually go viral.

already confessed my dislike for CNN but put yourself in their boardroom
i would've pulled the same thing to make sure my company is not derogatorily (is that a word) tarnished by some keyboard warrior
this is not some well-conducted criticism piece. it's a downright drop-kick in the balls that's given the man baby of a world leader to use as a humiliation fodder, then retweeted/shared a couple million times.
if you have the leverage and influence to end it swiftly, why not?
sometimes it takes a wolf to catch a wolf. It shouldn't be surprising a big news outlet probably assembled a full team to do detective work then stooping down to the level of a near-threat tactic.
Anyone else wish the fictional HBO Newsroom was still on the air so they could do a few seasons from the material gathered in the last 6 months alone?

I'm sure CNN has a huge lawyer team. All that is needed is for them to send the guy a legal letter threatening to sue, and get the guy to apologize and retract his post(s). There is absolutely no need to advertise it on their own site and FB page as a news story.

They could have issued a C&D to him and the host, which may have gone public but then they just look like typical corporate dicks. Or they could have ignored it which would have been the best thing to do.
Instead they are coercing someone into doing their bidding and then basically bragging about it on their website. I can't even imagine how they thought that was OK to do

From a media ethics standpoint, I am of the opinion that CNN had crossed the line on this one.
The Reddit user exercised his right to free speech. On the other hand, one could argue that he should own up to his actions if and when posting on the internet.

this reminds me a bit of a certain local sportscaster who was outraged at a parody account on Twitter. the parody account was pretty damn funny, while not being gross or libelous. poor sportscaster guy sends the Global/Corus lawyers after this guy and shuts him down.
