Where can I get rid of old car (functional) for cash?

Sort of a dumb question, but We bought a new car but the dealer did not want to take our mini van for trade because they appraised its value super low.

Where can I get rid of this car ( we still drive it daily and mechanically functional), and get some cash in return.

I dont want to spend time selling it on craigslist (we have no parking space), and it is high mileage and 17yrs old.

Does junk yard take cars for cash? or some actual dealer or shop that does this?

TIA

Post the details of the car here such as make, model and rough estimate of kms. Maybe a few members may be interested in a cheap beater?

I bought a $1500 mini van for moving, sold it for $1700 2 weeks later, some people need shit like this

Junk yards pay scrap value for your car. Which is also the approach that the "Scrap-It" program and various private car haulers also value your car.

If you want any value for it running, you need to sell it - there is no service that you can just drop it off at that actually cares it's a running vehicle.

Scrap-It requires that you've had in insured for the last 6 months, so I assume they sort of care that it's running.

Why not put on CL with a reasonable minimum and state you'll take best offer today as it has to go. Maybe you'll get more than expected. Likely not.. but it will be gone today and you'll have cash in hand.

How about the kidney foundation or wtv and get a tax write off

UnknownJinX 08-29-2017 11:50 AM

Umm, actually, selling on CL is a pretty good idea.

With university starting, some poor college kids want cheap cars. As long as it runs without needing major repairs, they will take it.

I bought a 99 Corolla 5-speed for learning and practicing how to drive a stick. When I am done, I sold it for $100 less than what I paid for. I got responses much quicker than my 08 Accord Coupe, which is much newer and more expensive.

Junkyard is the easy way out, but you also get less money. They just weigh your car and give you money based on that.

My wife got $850 credit towards car2go for giving them a 90s VW Rabbit. Was a good trade.

hchang 08-29-2017 05:50 PM

What kind of vehicle please pm me will buy or know buyers willing to buy anything (that will start)

This goes for all of you revscene

I have a 2000 honda odysessy EX V6. It has 241,865km and counting as we still drive it. But I would prefer to switch insurance to my new car as soon as it takes delivery.

I know craiglist would be good idea, but I dont have the time and energy to answer calls, I rather just have it gone in a timely fashion, regardless if i get more money or not.

normal wear tear, no dents, rust. garage parked, has scratches in multiple places notably front bumper and passenger door

Don't be so lazy, that's an easy sale man... literally takes seconds to post a couple photos on CL and dump it for a quick $1,500 firm... multiple examples on there at that mileage priced between $1,600 - $2,500

Takes less time than you've spent on this thread...

!LittleDragon 08-29-2017 08:35 PM

If you bought a plug in hybrid/full electric, Scrap-It will give you $6k for it... I'm actually planning to do this for my parents Mazda 6. It's worth like $900 and the dealer probably won't take it. No way they can get $6k on the market for it... may as well scrap it

There were no VW rabbits in the 90s.

Sell it to someone looking for a job as an owner operator in a courier company.

Better yet, keep it until Uber arrives then sell it.

yray 08-29-2017 11:20 PM

ill take it for 200

GabAlmighty 08-30-2017 05:38 AM

Don't be so lazy. Put it on craigslist, get a grand or two, and treat yourself to a nice escort for the evening/night.

tofu1413 08-30-2017 08:41 AM

6o4__boi 08-30-2017 09:38 AM
