who carries a good selection of sa2015 helmets? i went into driversedge this morning and the old man was there. dealing with him was a joke. i might try and go back when the other younger guy is around.

^I don't know if Modern Motorcycle has Snell SA2015 helmets as they are a motorcycle shop but I got my Snell M2010 from there.

Sorry to hear about your experience at Driver's Edge. I've dealt with Frank a lot of times. He's rough around the edges but he's been pleasant to deal with. Nice guy to chat with.

I was also a bit taken back by Frank...didn't seem very friendly to noobs and wasn't like I was asking dumb questions or didn't do my research as I knew the model I wanted to try. He warmed up just a bit but not enough to give them my business.

The old man is Frank's father. Frank fitted and special ordered a (sa2015) helmet for me. Like MB, I've had good chats with Frank. He has a dry sense of humour.

Another vote for Frank at Driver's Edge. Go back, talk to him (not pops). I have spent many thousands at DE and he has always treated me right with good advice. I don't often leave there going "I got a deal" but I never leave and find out I bought the wrong thing.

Good thing you posted this. I have 3 helmets for my motorcycle, just realized none of them are Snell approved (not even my AGV Corsa). Guess i have to go shopping too...

every motorcycle place i've called doesn't carry sa rated stuff. only m rated. it also bugs me that there are so many brands that are available down south that you can't even find dealers for up here. prands like pyrotect or blackarmour make highly rated helmets but i would want to try one on before pulling the trigger.

Mopac, then. They for sure carry SA. I’ve been getting M from Holeshot for years.

Ask for Catfish or James at Mopac. Actually, they’re all knowledgable and friendly over at Mopac.

You have to understand how people are in that business. Be cool.

I’ve also noticed RS members don’t talk about Mopac much. wAnder why......... nuff said

other than the hans attachments built in now and the fire retardant is there any advantage of the SA rated helmets over the M rated ones?

I know that motorcycle helmets take into consideration things like airflow and venting where I don't think the auto racing ones do.

to my knowledge

the main difference between motorcycle helmet vs auto racing helmet is that auto racing helmet is designed for multiple point of impacts vs motorcycle for 1 major impact

but someone else whos more knowledgeable can shed some light

SA is supposed to help when you've rolled over and take on multiple traumas
afaik motorcycle one is built to sustain a single blow

I bought my helmet at driver's edge. Not a deal at all, but it's a good helmet and I got to try a few on to get one that fits. I try to support to local guys.

I don't know if it was Frank, but the guy was more interested in looking at the teenage girl standing out side than me. It took about 45minutes to try on 3 helmets, and I don't think the guy even acknowledged me more than to shake the helmet and say it didn't fit a couple of times.

Not going back.

Another reason SA helmets are required for all real Motorsport events is that they are fire retardant in the same way that a Nomex racing suit is. M helmets have no fire protection whatsoever.

do you suppose SA is suitable for riding or not ideal because of poorer visibility/ventilation?

Personally I would rather not for any long distances. Visibility is helmet specific, for many there is no difference in viewing area, but ventilation is across the board worse on an SA helmet.

motorcycle helmets also seem to have little fins or spoilers off the back of them. I've always assumed they were there for some sort of assistance with riding at speed.

visibility is based on the helmet design itself

u could use a SA helmet for motorcycle - but aerodyanmic is shit (unless you get an SA helmet designed for open car ie. Arai GP6) which isnt that bad but when full tuck you wont see as good as a motorcycle helmet since their visor is aimed up more for when you are full tuck (ie. Arai Corsair X / AGV Pista/Corsa)

when i drive the radical i had to use my agv corsa since my SA helmet was really bad in an open car - but ever since getting an Arai GP6 its been fine
