Can I upgrade Win10 Home to Professional without clean installation?

I got good deal on a copy of win10 Pro DVD, what I am using now is Win10 Home. I tried to upgrade from control panel -> Setting, it seems the key does not allow me to perform simply version upgrade.

Is clean installation the only way?

I was always under the impression that Win10 allows you to just change the product key (from Control Panel > System and Security > System) and you can change / upgrade.

Me too, but shop said the key is for clean installation. I tried another HDD to perform a clean installation, it works fine.

Even if you could just 'upgrade' from Home, I highly recommend a clean install.
