RIP. :tears:

This incident hits close to my workplace. The shooting is only one block away from where I work.

This area near Broadway and Ontario is becoming dangerous! -heard about a person stabbing a security guard inside the Dollar store at Kingsgate Mall nearby in December 2013. That stabbing happened on the first day that my workplace moved to an office nearby.

Then a guy got stabbed near Broadway and Ontario on March 28, 2017:

http://www.news1130.com/2017/03/28/m...ight-stabbing/

Now this happens.

snowball 01-16-2018 01:11 PM

That area isn't becoming dangerous, it's always been like that. Kingsgate mall hasn't been a properly safe place in decades. If anything that neighbourhood where the shooting occurred is way better than it was in the 90s, it's just terrible that the morons would try to pull such a stunt at such a busy time of day.

DragonChi 01-16-2018 01:36 PM

I was OK with crooks killing each other, but now that there's an innocent victim, to add to that, 15 years young. The cops need to start doing their job, and the shooter needs to be jailed.

That's the problem. Sooner or later it spreads to the general public. Then everyone panics. Better to stop it before it hits the general public.

68style 01-16-2018 03:27 PM

LOL @ cops need to start doing their job... i would like to hear DragonChi's proposal to thwart "random" gangland shootings.

Also, do you have stats on how many shootings the police DO stop through tips and duty to warns? No? Because they don't happen = they aren't in the media = you never hear about them.

Derp much?

Lets turn a dying paintball range into a violent crimes settlement center.

I have no idea how the police work when it comes to organized crime and violent crime investigations. Couldn't tell you how I would handle gangland shootings, I haven't had to think about them much. :fullofwin:

I do admit, that the post was not given much though either. It was an instant reaction to how I felt about hearing this type of news.

What I do expect, is an investigation of how and why this happened.

I thought in Canada if both parties agree to a fight, it's legal? TO THE DEATH! Why involve other people that have nothing to do with the dispute? ... probably because criminals aren't the smartest of people...

I work nearby as well. I was actually working late Sat night and left around 10:30/11ish and I remember seeing a ton of police lights near Broadway&Quebec as usually turn onto Main via 5th ave.

I remember last year there was a crazy guy walking around with a bible that stabbed a couple people at random. My fiance and I almost bought a place in Mt. Pleasant as it's close to work and supposedly up and coming. Kind of glad we didn't in retrospect.

Mr.Money 01-17-2018 01:37 PM

there needs to be big brother camera's set up in the most seedy areas over every stop light.

Up and coming's just a fancy way of saying it's a shithole now, but it'll be less of a shithole in coming years. :okay:

I am fine with surveillance of every street in the city. As long as their are strict rules on how/when/who can access it.

With it in place, I believe it would prevent most shootings, murders, kidnappings etc.....

Most crimes go unsolved and trying to solve them with no leads really drains out the resources.

Mr.C 01-17-2018 11:46 PM

As someone from Rio de Janeiro, this is fucking unacceptable, and not what I signed up for when I moved here. They better catch the guy, and he better get life. There needs to be zero tolerance for this kind of shit.

um... here:

Fatal Caprice nightclub assault leads to manslaughter charge | Vancouver Sun

life sentences.. you'd have to deface bike lanes or cut a tree down in vancouver.

YOU WIN:ahwow::joy::joy::fuckthatshit:

hchang 01-18-2018 11:06 AM

Life sentence here is only 25 years

twitchyzero 01-18-2018 12:09 PM

the end of the original article compares a similar story

Quote:

Palmer said the last loss of an innocent life he could recall was a shooting in 2004 outside a nightclub in the Gastown district that claimed the life of Rachel Davis, who was 23.

She was trying to stop a man from beating another man who was on the ground when she was shot. Her companion was shot and wounded in the wrist and shoulder.

The victim on the ground, Richard Hui, was also killed. Both Davis and Hui died of bullet wounds to the head.

Imran Sharif, 25, was found guilty in 2006 of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

would people support big brother style cameras at every street corner for improved safety? Think UK or Shanghai/Beijing style....

LOL only 25 years?

How much has your life changed in the last 25 years? Are you the same person?

snowball 01-18-2018 09:33 PM

That's a myth anyway. No chance of parole for 25 years doesn't mean they get out in 25 years. This isn't Norway.

I would. I'm living in shanghai now with camera's everywhere. Besides the fact that you can't randomly park anymore, I think it's great to have police see every corner of the city if needed. I'd give up privacy for safety and piece of mind that criminals will get caught if they do something. North america's too uptight about privacy. Who cares if someone is watching you, not like big brother actually cares about spying on the average joe.

When I think of local police competence in regards to innocent bystanders getting killed I think of things like this.

Surrey 6: More RCMP investigators accused of sexual contact with witnesses - British Columbia - CBC News

2 guilty in Surrey Six killings seek access to secret documents behind stay of Jamie Bacon's charges - British Columbia - CBC News

I've never understood why everyone is so uptight about security cameras being put up. I don't go around committing illegal activities, so I could care less if they have me on camera. The added security and benefit of these far outweighs any 'privacy concerns' imo
