im sure theres more out there.

post what cars you find too similar?

GS8 01-24-2018 10:51 AM

I think aerodynamics (fuel economy) and crash test compliance are the biggest reasons cars look the same.

Not sure about interiors but I'm thinking ergonomics plays the biggest role. Also, Kia has always been known to take inspiration from other manufacturers.

I'd say 80% of CUVs look the same from the side and rears.

!LittleDragon 01-24-2018 10:58 AM

Not surprised, Hyundai and Kia have been poaching designers and engineers from German car companies. They're likely to design new cars for them similar to their previous cars at the German firms.

Liquid_o2 01-24-2018 11:14 AM

I know the 8th and 9th gen Civic interior design was polarizing with the two-tier dash, but at least it was different.

I agree that all of today's CUV's look the same. There isn't much you can change from the basic shape of them.

Exactly why I still love the 90s cars.

Hondaracer 01-24-2018 12:18 PM

Everyone’s too scared to try something different. Funny enough because cars like the Model S are huge slam dunks and completely out of the norm interior and dash wise.

I drive the CLA and GLA (I think that’s the model) that car2go uses fairly frequently, man I’d have a hell of a time paying 50k+ for those finishes

ZN6 01-24-2018 12:42 PM

Gotta say, this ain't the first time. I had so much trouble telling these apart when I was a kid.

All look the same? I think the mainlander's exotic rides here in the Lower Mainland have pretty unique interiors.

Is there any exotic car that has a ignition button that looks like something from a jet fighter like the Aventador/Aventador S? -not even Ferrari has an engine start button with a cover over it.(red cover in the pic):

This just in: cars in the same body-class have vaguely the same shape.

M3E46Fanatic 01-24-2018 02:43 PM

I don't think I will ever buy a brand new car in my lifetime. Firstly they all look so generic and are made out of tin can. Secondly they don't make cars to last very long anymore nor reliable. Thirdly they make the engine bay so tight making it extremely difficult for DIY

I wouldn't go THAT far lol.

RRxtar 01-24-2018 03:15 PM

so what you're saying is that consumers have gotten used to, an expect a certain form-factor, and auto makers are building cars that fit that form factor, meet regulations, and fit engineering and production economics. Oh, and alot of them source parts from the same 3rd party manufacturers.

Cellphones are all tall rectangles for a reason.

SpeedStars 01-24-2018 03:42 PM

I believe this is what happens when you cater to the general public by having designs based around focus groups rather than creativity. They're all designed to sell :concentrate:

Don’t know where he jet fighter thing came from as jet fighters don’t have “start buttons”.

GS8 01-24-2018 05:29 PM

Start button?

I thought it activated a fire suppression system

asian_XL 01-24-2018 05:48 PM

same thing happens in smartphones, can hardly tell the brand by the outlook anymore.

I honestly never had an issue with telling a car apart. Model year differences..maybe...but i'm usually correct.

But this...

if someone replaces all the badges and tells me it's a new model, I might get fooled
