| Andrew Wilkinson named new leader of BC Liberals https://globalnews.ca/news/4004558/b...ears-in-power/
Dianne Watts had the lead at the start but could not get to 50%.

Who the hell is that?
Dianne Watts, I think everybody knows. I would vote for the Liberals if she was the leader.
Having said that, I'm okay with that Horgan guy. He is a bit of a surprise, though. Still in power. Anyway......

As long as a politician has integrity - is honest, down to earth, can relate to the average person and see things from other people’s perspective, they have my vote.
So, I guess nobody gets my vote at number one.
Sad.

I think it should be simpler than that. Pick a guy that best aligns with your interests. The guy that gets the most votes should be in office because it's the representative of the population.
With saying that, there's a flaw with first past the post, and our electoral system should be reformed to a ranking system. We'll see if the federal (Liberals) and provincial government (Green) deliver on that promise.
There is also the issue with voter participation. I think the number is roughly around 30-40% of the population votes, which in my opinion is tragic, as it is reflective of the will of the nation and province.

This system is touted by some as an alternative to FPTP. And even then, people are pissed at the result. You can't make everyone happy all the time in our system it seems.
Oh and 30-40% is usually the turnout for municipal elections. Provincial elections turnout hovers around 55-60% for the last few elections. Still pathetic though but not as bad.

Too many politcians are out of touch with their constituents.
it's unrealistic for an upper class to understand the struggles of the middle class - and as capitalistic as i am, it's the middle class that drives the economy.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer........... the middle stays the same.
We mock the rich and shed a crocodile tear or two for the poor, but fuck with the middle class and all hell will break loose.
Line the pockets of the wealthy and big businesses, while looking like you care for everybody else and you'll be in like a dirty shirt. Lie through your teeth, smile like Olivia Munn is under and behind the podium.......
Okay............... getting waaaay off track, gulolol.

This guy has been around since Gordo and he's stated to continue the work of Gordo and Krusty. Nothing is going to change for the Libs, people are tired of the same. They would have done better with Diane Watts, new blood with the Libs.

I was hoping the liberals would choose Diane Watts. She would have brought a breathe of fresh air.

Also the Alberta government just banned all B.C. wines because of the pipe line.

I get it that her job is to represent her province's interest, but for her to resort to boycotting products is just petty. It only hurts the smaller businesses that had nothing to do with the dispute.
I'm glad Horgan is taking the high road, though. If I were in his shoes, it would be all out war.
It's like that banking commercial.......... "is the deal good for me and my family, or is it just good for you?"
If something catastrophic happens, no amount of money is going to fix it. I'm not a tree hugger, but there is a time where we have to draw the line. I love the natural beauty of our province. Something they (Alberta) have very little of.
How much power do the feds have?
On a related issue, would all First Nations people across the land unite to fight this?
If we are a country, should we not protect all parts of it, as one? Make sacrifices so one province can get its way?............. oh, wait................. québec, gulolol.

Spoke too soon about them québécois. They have embraced BC wines in a way to send a message to Alberta’s premier. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/globalne...s-bc-wine/amp/

I know it won't happen, but if BC were to ban Alberta oil they'd be fucked. Most of the oil that gets refined in the tiny refinery in Burnaby is piped in from the existing KM pipeline from Alberta (My info could be old, pipeline substations often can intersect and reroute. Especially near cities). The only other refinery is in PG and that one barely produces enough oil to keep a Chevy Sprint lubed up.
Alberta refines roughly 25 times more oil than BC. Almost 4 times more oil than Ontario. If people are really asking (and a lot seem to be, at least through what I see in social media) for that boycott, where would BC import it's oil from? Would they get it trucked up from Washington? Doubt it as that would be too expensive. They would get their oil imported on tankers from China.
Either way, this whole thing is stupid in my opinion. There are already many pipelines going to BC and pipelines from within BC to other parts of BC. Adding a new pipeline that will be looked at through a microscope the whole way is probably the best thing because of the scrutiny, the pipeline itself will probably be the safest one built in Canada.
