I couldn't imagine the stresses it would go through in the cabin let alone being in a dark, cold, cargo hold alone.

Sure is tiring and sucks to be driving for days but is part of being a responsibility pet owner. People have driven across Canada so it can be done. If you are moving to another country then will you have to make that choice of giving up your pets or taking the risk and putting your pet in the cargo bay. Beside you plan to move long distance and as a responsibility pet owner shouldn't you play this ahead?
If you are going on vacation then you can leave your pet with your friends or maybe even a pet store that will care for your pets when you are away. I know a friend who haven't taken any long trips in years since she doesn't want to take her dog on a plane with her and is afraid that her dogs will miss her. Is a sacrifice she made so her dogs can be happy. I mean you get a pet shouldn't you plan this out? Like your life is going to change a lot. Getting a pet is not like getting a toy when you are done you can just throw the toy away.

Taking my dog on a plane would be a last resort, but in the chance that I did take it I expect the staff the have the competency to not kill the thing while it's with them, or ship it 2000 miles in the wrong direction.

the news this morning said last year united alone took 150,000 pets on board and had 15 die
imo id say thats pretty good actually.. I guarantee you a good majority of those deaths are idiots who have no clue wtf they are doing and are taking some old or super timid/scared dog onto a plane where they should never be there in the first place.
As said above, taking a dog on a plane would be an absolute last resort.

I guess it depends what the cause of death is, something doesn't just die because it's scared, there's more factors at play.

If I can’t hold the dog myself (aka fits under the seat) I wouldn’t be travelling with a dog unless it was a very last resort. How about you hand your baby child to a bunch of strangers and trust them to get it where it is going.
Sure there is a system, it’s works well most of the time. But this is a living being in a high paced, quickly changing environment. Nope. I’d drive. happyslip actually nailed it.

it sucks and every dog is going to react differently, i would take one dog knowing her personality but not the other. It might not be a comfortable 12 hours but if if it's only a one time deal and there's no other choice but to give it away then so be it
I see all the strays in other parts of the world and know the ones here have it too good

Yeah cause the 5 babies on board every flight screaming bloody murder is music to my ears. If I actually had to fly more than once a year I'd invest in the best noise cancelling headphones money can buy pop a sleeping pill.

Last time i flew west jet i paid the extra to get premium plus to and from Toronto, on the return leg a woman who was with her family and their kid got bumped up for free to the premium seat across my row, her stupid fucking family and young kids were running up and down the aisles and bumped over my drink twice, first onto my pants second onto my Switch.. was fucking chokedddd...
I wrote westjet asking why the fuck am i paying for these seats when people are getting bumped up and having their whole family visit them in these seats.. their response was "much like using a bus, a plane is public transportation and we cannot control individuals using it"
fuck Westjet.

as long as the parents apologize and if they're screaming the whole way they're actively doing something about it, i will try to be more understanding Quote:

fuck Westjet. | On one of my flights from Beijing to Vancouver. There was a family with a young child at the back of my row. The child started kicking my seat and the seat next to me(A C-lai) I turn and give them a dirty look. Anyways the kids keep kicking. The C-lai got piss and exploded on the couple and the kid. She just scream and yell. Afterwards the entire flight the child kept quiet and never kick our seats again.
C-lais can be some use.

thank you for participating though
don't want babies to ruin your perfectly comfortable flight? Bring earplugs, noise-cancelling cans or fly private...WestJet's response to Hondaracer wasn't wrong, they are a publicly accessible mode of transportation, business class or not

I have flown many short flights (Vancover to Edmonton, Edmonton to Victoria) etc. He was always in a airline approved bag and even the people sitting next to me weren't aware he was there.
Certain breads of dogs cant fly cargo due to breathing issues: brachycephalic dog; the Pug, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Boston Terrier, Shih Tzu and Pekinese to name the most common.
Someone should have stood and say no when stewardess put the dog in there. If we can't put kids we can't put dogs.
