$440/month in Canada, 91 octane, 65L tank (I think), roughly 400km/tank or 12.8L/100km, city only.

I tend to fill in the states now, for CAD $264.56/month according to my cc statement. That's pretty good for 92! (which is said to be = to 94 here). Only downside is waiting in the border lineup is like 45 mins - 90mins both ways, for only 20mins max in Blaine.

The csx type s gets like 318 - 330 km per tank of 43L (91), 100% city in traffic.

Costs about $72 to fill up on average every 2 weeks on the sunday. So about $1872 a year.

Feels like my tank is too small 42 + 50 liters from jerry can, to make it worth driving to PR for gas.

UnknownJinX 03-20-2018 11:06 AM

80ish per week for me as well. I get about 300 or less with about 50 L of fuel. I drive a bit less right now since the weather is warmer and I don't need to drive to school anymore.

Yeah, the only real thing that sucks about an RX-8 is the fuel milage. Doesn't help that I have an addiction with the 9k redline and I am always heavy on the pedal. If I do more highway and/or can be lighter on the pedal, maybe I can hit 16 MPG.

mb_ 03-20-2018 11:08 AM

About $250~ CAD for an FRS.

J-Chow 03-20-2018 11:12 AM

$420 / month.

4x a month for the Toyota Sienna
2x a month for the Mustang

is that just the nature of the beast with rotaries in general or just that motor or a heavy chassis?

Woah! 440 a month. I think you're the winner. That's really a lot. Makes sense you go to the states

Last year my gas bill was about $4500 at mostly $1.30ish/litre (91). Now that it’s up around $1.60/litre and it’s supposed to rise even higher.

At $1.60/litre, that’s around $460/month for me.

Liquid_o2 03-20-2018 01:47 PM

About $200 per month, 91 octane. Depends how often I go see my parents and nephew in the suburbs.

teggy604 03-20-2018 02:57 PM

damn all you are ballers. My 90 hatch cost me about 108 a month and I still find that expensive. In the summer I ride my scooter so around 20 dollars a month still cheaper than monthly bus pass.

Rotaries in general, really. Renesis in the RX-8 is actually designed to be more fuel efficient with the side exhaust ports, which make it so that some unburnt fuel will make it to the next combustion cycle rather than being swept out of the peripheral exhaust ports found on RX-7 engines.

The factory tune also runs pig rich from what I have read, which certainly doesn't help.

Couple that with the fact that I am pretty heavy with the gas pedal, yeah, 13~15 MPG with all city driving isn't all that surprising. The worst I have got is 11ish MPG with a lot of short trips and all city driving.

RX-8 is also not that heavy for a 4-seater. The curb weight is around 3000 lbs. My old Accord Coupe V6 is around 3500 lbs, but it also gets 18 MPG on average with mostly city driving.

I think with a rotary you have to include your monthly oil expenses too. When you go to the gas station you fill up the oil and check the gas

dared3vil0 03-20-2018 08:17 PM

$781.45

In a typical 4-stroke piston engine, fuel is added once every 2 revolutions.

In a rotary engine, fuel is added 3 times per revolution.

AzNightmare 03-21-2018 01:11 AM

I pay about $70~/tank with 94.
About 42L or so. I just fill up whenever I see the fuel light and it's convenient.
Gets me about 375km, 99% city, and I average approx 1000km/mo.

4000kms!??!?! holy crap, you must live on the road.

nessus 03-21-2018 07:02 AM

This makes my gas cost seem high. I live and work in burnaby, and drive a 4 cylinder. about $250 ~ $300 per month. Too many short trips I guess...

Badhobz 03-21-2018 07:18 AM

I'm doing about 1000kms - 1500kms a month all over the local ports. Northshore, vancouver, delta, Surrey. Getting 500 kms per tank so it's roughly 2.5 tanks a month. Or 150 bucks a month

hwangr 03-21-2018 07:40 AM

400/month cuz I have lead foot. :(

meme405 03-21-2018 07:57 AM

Never looked at it too much, fuel is an expense when I have to buy it from a station, and normally I fuel at site.

But for the current site I am at:

~190km daily round trip from Campbell river to site. 21 days straight, and then my travel in and out to vancouver is ~200km, and my week off another 400km of driving around.

4500 to 5000km a month. 6.6L Duramax at an indicated 16.1L/100km = ~760L of diesel a month.

So I'd guess if I was paying for it around $900-$1000 a month?

I miss owning a diesel and working at a shipyard.
