I think with a rotary you have to include your monthly oil expenses too. When you go to the gas station you fill up the oil and check the gas

Oil cost is more or less negligible compared to the gas cost.

At most, I would burn through a litre of oil every month and that's at most CAN$9 with a bottle of conventional oil, and $5 per litre if you buy a big 5L jug. For reference, I think my 99 Corolla drank more oil and it's due to a design flaw(not intentional).

RX-8 oil injection is also electronically controlled, so if I happen to drive more highway on one trip, it wouldn't burn nearly as much as if I am driving in city.

If anything, I think premix is a bit more expensive. I think that would be about CAN$20ish a month.

2007 G35x here. 320km per tank all city, driving with a steady foot. Spending around $350 a month on gas, and I don't drive much.

ime2006 03-21-2018 11:20 PM

4.6L V8

cost me 500-550 a month...
From North Van to Richmond everyday commute.

jinxcrusader 03-22-2018 08:54 AM

I'm very curious why people would not opt for a more fuel efficient vehicle if they're commuting such distances. Is it because of work trucks? That can't be the only reason right?

whitev70r 03-22-2018 09:37 AM

^ most likely because of the initial cash layout of purchasing a hybrid, electric, diesel, or any more fuel efficient vehicle vs. keeping their present car. Many have calculated and it would take you like 5+ years of amount you save on gas to just break even on the cost of changing vehicle.

Best option right now may be a used half decent shape 50cc scooter (insurance and gas wise).

I have a cheap daily and a truck. Just happens that the truck is getting used more often.

ZN6 03-22-2018 10:10 AM

$70 - $80 a month. but then again, i transit to work in the heart of downtown. monthly compass pass is $126 so I'm probably still looking at around $200 a month on transportation give or take. It won't change that much even with having a work laptop and working from home. fkin' compass pass.

sporadicMotion 03-22-2018 12:19 PM

$350-400 depending on where I’m driving. That’s E85@1.66/L

It's funny because I sometimes mutter the thought that I should have kept my Corolla(which gets at least double the gas mileage my 8 gets).

The thing is, insurance cost about $1200 or more every year, and I still need to do maintenance on the car, like oil changes, etc, so the fuel saving would have to be at least $1500 or more every year, which I highly doubt.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of the gas guzzler cars are also fun, so you would default to driving it.

If insurance works like it does in the US(follows the person, not the car), then I would entertain the thought of a roadster like an S2k, Miata or even an FC/FD RX-7 and a beater in case I need the 4/5 seats.

yup. It's funny how that happens..... Not that it matters when you don't actually own a fuel effecient vehicle.
I have a thirsty 5.7L, a thirsty 6.0L, and a really thirsty 350ci piece of cast iron. All are very good at doing burnouts, and making loud grumbly noises.

although, gas prices makin' me feel like :okay:

for me, if you enjoy driving, or drive enough, you might as well spend a bit more and actually enjoy your vehicle as opposed to saving X amount per month on fuel driving somthing you hate

HonestTea 03-22-2018 03:34 PM

About $300~ per month for a C300 and usually in Eco mode...

vantrip 03-22-2018 07:36 PM

$140/month. 2 tanks 450-500kms. usually half the month is carpooling so helps quite a bit.

About a full tank and 2 Jerry cans down at Blaine usually gets me through the month. Max I'll need is a 20 dollar top up locally. Premium fuel though on the GTI so we're talking about 150cad all said an done

JSALES 03-23-2018 04:44 AM

I spend around $120 a month give or take.

I drive to work mostly

IMASA 03-23-2018 06:30 AM

Mazdaspeed3: ~$75 for a 44L of 94 which lasts around 380kms, city driving exclusively. Lasts about 2 weeks since I only drive to work and pick up my kid from daycare.

CRV: ~$80 for 55L of 87 which lasts around 500km, mixed city/highway driving. Lasts about 1.5 weeks since we use this as the family car and wife drives a lot farther for work.

'90 Si right here :fullofwin:

I'm probably doing around the same lol. Hatch owners unite!

kkthind 03-23-2018 10:08 AM

I've been driving Conservatively lately. Only fill up twice a month now in Blaine :fuckyea:

Tone Loc 03-24-2018 09:20 AM

2 tanks per month. 600-700km per tank. Lots of highway driving.

At 1.40/liter for premium I usually pay $70-75 for a full tank. Which equates to around $150-160 per month.

I live in Mississauga :troll:
