Buying Used Coilovers: What Should I Ask?

Hey everyone! So I finally found a set of coilovers that I've been looking all over for, Bilstein B14 PSS

I don't usually buy parts used, especially important parts like these, but this is a really good deal. Since I won't be seeing the part in person until I pick it up at Blaine, is there anything I should ask to the seller?

What are the best practices with buying used coilovers/suspension bits?

I've already asked if it's been tracked, any issues (only honest sellers would answer), and from pics it doesn't seem like there's any major issues. Thoughts?

TIA!

I'd want to know if they're off a crashed car.

Looks pretty good condition, if it was, but I will ask that for sure! Thanks!

That's a solid price, $600 USD. Good luck with the purchase!

Actually $700 usd, bc shipping, so roughly $1K CAD, but still cheaper than 1.4K + HST LOL

Ask for photos of his car with them installed so you can see how slammed they’ve been. I wouldn’t want coils from any stance nation soyboy

I got the buyer to agree with sending me an invoice with Paypal, so not going the gift/family/friend route. So if anything happens, hopefully not, Paypal's purchase protection should cover me. I'm ok with paying the premium for a little extra security.

I'm excited! Pulled the trigger on it, probably an impulse buy, but I can finally finish the last piece of my e46 refresh!

Thank God it's not stupid stanced. It's pretty much as low as I am currently, so no crazy changes needed.

Don’t know about the specific kit in question but you’d want to know the spring rates if that was something the buyer could spec during the time of purchase. You’d also want to know if they are the original buyer and if not how times they’ve changed hands. Ask if they have been rebuilt as well.

So I sent the payment already, but as seen above, while the seller claimed it would fit all e46s, that doesn't seem to be the case, as it was fitted on to a M3. Now I gotta figure out how to fit it on to a non-m.

I could've sold you a set of Bilstein PSS9's for a fraction of that price. Only caveat is that one shock is damaged but RPI/Bilstein can take it in for repair.

You don't have any issue that he seems to have driven over a 3" curb to park on the grass? What other dumb stuff has this guy done?

Considering the price you pay for a shop to install coilovers and then a few hundred bucks for an alignment, you are taking a lot of risk for not a lot of savings. I have bought used suspension a few times and every time I have it has been a mistake that has ended up costing me more.

Never again.

Well you're in luck. I might have just been royally screwed here. But how much would a shock repair cost LOL

I would, but the whole point of me buying the PSS kit is so I can have height adjustability, otherwise, I would have just gone the koni yellow route (which at this point might seem like a better idea if I truly did just get scammed).

Not sure how the whole PSS kit is set up, and how it allows for adjustability with the shocks.
