sorry dumb arguments guys...of course a group of presumably bright young athletes who died for hockey will hit Canadians closer to home than Indians that went over the rails into a canyon. Just in this thread many have chimed in recalling a time when they were younger traveling in the winter for organized sports.
Tragedies happen everywhere, and rather frequently. We don't have the means to help every last cause. Stop being judgemental assholes.

Anyone find it odd that they're piggybacking off a joke internet meme (Dicks out for Harambe) from a few years ago?

Definitely a tragedy and a fairly large concentration of loss of life in a single moment.
After reading through this thread, I got curious and started looking through StatsCan and realized there is a lot of death on our streets on a yearly basis. Motor vehicle accidents causing death, by sex and by age group (Both sexes no.)
Pure stats are usually brought up as a footnote in a news story but facts are boring and have nothing to do with feelings. My worry is the media will milk this story, trying to create as many fluff pieces as they can (because their revenues are hurting badly). All while the families yearn for privacy.

The bus was traveling west on the main road while the truck had the stop sign. In one of the pics, you see there is a row of trees on the right for the truck, so the truck driver didn't see the bus and the bus driver didn't see the truck till it was too late for both vehicles.
The guess is the truck driver blew the stop sign.

Does this crash remind anyone else of the one Joe Sakic was in back in the 80s when he was in the juniors? That team was also called the Broncos, the Swift Current Broncos.
He lost four teammates, one of which was Lindy Ruff's younger brother.

The guess is the truck driver blew the stop sign. | Bus was travelling North on 35. Truck was travelling West on 335.
But you're correct about the stop signs, and the trees which would have affected visibility. Also, at time of day the sunlight angle would have also been a factor.

I didn't check, but what is the speed limit on 35?
The damage and distance traveled from the impact scene leads me to believe other vehicles were not traveling that fast, and quite possibly, the truck didn't run the stop sign.

The school bus thing could just be a bylaw I really don't know. | I spent 16+ hours on those kind of coach busses every week travelling to ball games in College. Ripping through mountain passes in snow storms or hauling ass through the Prairies, we had some close calls but never wore seatbelts or ever thought anything of it. Been talking with some old teammates and it kinda put it all into perspective how quickly things can change.
These teams are the pillar of small communities, its sad for us but I imagine it's unfathomably tragic for the folks over there

TBH, it's the media that dictates which deaths we feel are tragic, IMO.
If I die tomorrow, would any of them care? Nope. Nor should they.
See where I'm going with this..
