Her anger was unprovoked. All of the witnesses that commented made it clear that her back was to them and there was no way she could have seen them make the gestures that she said they made. Regardless of how we percieve how middle eastern men treat women, she took it ten steps further by (#1) assuming they were abusive to women and (#2) attacking them based on her own prejudice.

And this is coming from a guy who wouldn't let his daughter date someone from the middle east. So if I think it's fucked up, it probably is.

I guess someone's reaction to remarks like hers really depends on where you think they came from.
Whether you think they're from a place of hate, fear, anger, or ignorance should really be the determining factors. Of course some people won't even go so far as to ask themselves that and just blanket it with the term 'racism'.

Example: my coworker, white guy, has a daughter and very young granddaughter. She was dating a Muslim guy, middle Eastern descent. This guy ended up beating her and his granddaughter half to death.
So when I hear someone (ahem, hypa :hi:) say they wouldn't want their daughter dating a middle Eastern guy, I got nothing to say to that.
