'Murica - Man to Spanish speakers at New York restaurant: 'My next call is to ICE'

A man berated employees and customers for speaking Spanish in a New York restaurant, describing them as undocumented and threatening to call immigration officials in a rant captured on video.

The incident happened Tuesday at a Fresh Kitchen in Manhattan, according to Edward Suazo, who posted a video of the encounter on Facebook, saying his wife and her friend were the target of the man's anger.
The video starts with a man in a white collared shirt confronting employees and customers in the restaurant.

"Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English," the man says, holding a white iPhone and pointing at the Spanish speakers for emphasis.
"Every person I listen to: He spoke it, he spoke it, she's speaking it. This is America!" he says.

The man continues to express his displeasure to an employee and threatens to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
"My guess is they're not documented. So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country," he says.
"If they have the balls to come here and live off my money, I pay for their welfare. I pay for their ability to be here. The least they can do ... is speak English."

These New Yorkers have such an attitude.

He did show some restraint by not taking a dump in the restaurant and throwing shit at the staff. :lawl:

the above incident can EASILY occur within Canada as well... current political and social climate has successfully brought out the scum from underneath their rocks.

i think everyone is no more shitty than ever before, its just that now everyone has smart phones and everyone is connected worldwide; we hear about every single case

edit: just watched the video.... he says his tax money pays for their welfare? uhh... if theyre undocumented workers, wouldn't they not be eligible for social programs such as welfare

I have to admit, I feel the guy's pain. It's like going out for dinner in Richmond. But isn't that part of the experience.

Why are people so hung up on other people speaking another language in front of them? I prefer it. Saves me from listening in on their inane conversations.

I don't think America has an official language either.

Why does the fact that someone else is speaking in a different language bother you?

Do you like listening to what others are talking about? That makes you an eavesdropping, nosy creep.

And no, the Earth doesn't revolve around you, so they are not gossiping about you.

While I do encourage folks to speak as much English here as possible, sometimes it's easier to get an idea across in their native language. And sometimes, learning is not feasible. Do you expect my 70-year-old grandparents to learn from scratch?

I said it before, and I will say it again: speaking English is nothing to be proud of. You are just showing how dumb you are since you can't speak a language more complicated than English.

No, but making an effort and learning a few words goes a long way. If I was immigrating to a country because it was a "better" place to live, or because I just wanted to be there. I would make the effort to respect/assimilate myself to the culture.

it's also nice to be able to carry a conversation more in depth than several basic words.

I can't stand when signage or patrons in restaurants are speaking Mandarin/Cantonese only. Problem is this particular language is not even slightly native to Canada.

What I find more bizarre about these Trump folks riffing off about Mexican and Spanish speaking Americans, is that MEXICANS ARE PART OF AMERICA, literally, geographically. Spanish language is part of a America, it's most definitely as much of a native language as you can get within the region, unlike Mandarin or Cantonese here in Vancouver. Our problem stems from a relatively recent wave of immigrants, the so called Mexican issue is not the case, whatsoever.

Bit of a false equivalency, at least to me.

Would you levy such judgement to a French Canadian who only speaks French, mein fuhrer?
