I await the day where we turn into Mexico or worse where half the label is “excessio Sodium” “excessio sugar” because we have all become too dumb to understand basic nutrition.

At some point we can make our own decisions without the communism parts lol

That was like 6 decades ago man. Remember when they were marketing cigarettes to pregnant women so they could have smaller babies? People don't know what's good for them.

People comparing targeted tariffs like wine to Trump's idiotic blanket tariffs exhibit small brained thinking, and should not be taken seriously or even considered

When it comes to wine, it’s very similar.

It’s a tax on importing wine in the veiled attempt to “protect” the Canadian industry.

The only people you are protecting are the large corporations.

“Wine stores” in Toronto, which is frankly insane you can even call it a wine store, stock like nothing but Ontario Wine, Jackson Triggs. Jackson triggs is owned by the Ontario teachers pension plan. This is no exaggeration whatsoever, a 700 sq ft govt. run store stocked MAYBE 15 different bottles just in varrying arrangements and different layouts..

I wouldn’t call any of that in the best interest of the consumer. It’s no different than what Trump is proposing here in European wines. We just never hear about it here.

Trump is not proposing targeted tariffs to protect specific American industries, like you would do with wine for instance (you can complain about the size of these companies; that's a separate thing), he is putting a blanket tariff on every country in the world, based on a retarded calculation. Except for Russia, who they claim is being left out because they are negotiating a peace treaty.

You can use tariffs to support domestic growth in, say, wine, but to think you're going to be able to do it for literally everything is toddler level thinking. You want to start a booming coffee agriculture industry in America, to replace imported coffee that is now 40% more expensive? Have fun doing that when it can only possibly grow in one tiny state. Or how about textiles? The whole reason to do this in Cambodia is to make use of legalized sweatshop labor. Have fun trying to do that in America, when you're already kicking out everyone from the country who would be willing to work there.

Not to mention taxing everything that every industry would depend on just fucks them over in a roundabout way. The computers to run the businesses, the materials to house the product, the lighting, the transportation. Everything is tariffed at absurd rates. Oh you want to replace that with American computers, cheap housing, vehicles, and lighting? Have fun with that. And you'll have to pay tariffs setting all that up too.

The president is a retard. You can't defend his actions, only try to deal with them. There is a reason everyone sees this as a crisis, even Republicans are starting to take note of it.

The slightest hint that the tariffs may not happen or will be delayed results in a jump in the markets

Funny thing is that Russia is still getting hurt by the tariffs because it's driving oil prices lower to the point that Russia's economy may not be able to survive the impact so the war in Ukraine may have to end indirectly b/c of Trump.

I believe this was announced awhile ago (or at least speculated). It's exactly what needs to happen though. More and more companies will work around the US rather than including them.

The more countries they piss off, the more people will be inclined to boycott their products all together. Many countries have looked to us as an example both in boycotting but also a precautionary tale that if THIS is how they treat their greatest ally, they sure as shit aren't going to treat your country any better.

These videos are from another interest of mine, but they apply here since they give a first hand account of how the tariffs affect an American company. He's a watch reseller and he has his own brand as well. This applies mostly to his own brand, but he gets into reselling in the second video.

And the followup here, to some feedback to that video, where people thought his profit should actually go UP with the tariffs:

Apologies for the stupid Youtube face on the thumbnails. Usually I click "do not recommend" to channels that do that, but he only started doing that after I subscribed.

As expected, China won't back down to the U.S. after Cheeto raised tariffs again on Chinese exports:

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/0...s-new-tariffs/

Range of options that China can use to respond to Trump:

China still has a range of options to strike back at the Washington, experts said, including suspending cooperation on combating fentanyl, placing higher quotas on agricultural products and going after the U.S. trade in services in China such as finance and law firms.

U.S. total goods trade with China was an estimated $582 billion in 2024, making it the top trader in goods with the U.S. The 2024 deficit with China in goods and services trade was between $263 billion and $295 billion.

I suspect that there will be even more trade and economic cooperation between China, other Asian, countries, and European countries now.
Shut out the USA from trade!

Someone needs to tell Howard Nutlick to watch the Netflix documentary “American Factory” if he thinks Americans are going to start screwing together everything from iPhones to dollar store products.

We'll be at 444% tariffs between the US and China by end of month.

Especially the poors, or his voter base that shops out of dollar stores, Walmart. All that shit is made in China. I think they should be hit the most cuz they buy the most shit from China the poorer you are.

Everything from China is now tariffed at 104% by the US. Gonna be crazy once existing inventory is gone.
