Trump has already agreed to an orderly transition of power, and IMO, that should have been more than enough of a win for the Democrats to back off. If either the Democrats or the Republicans care about healing and reconciliation of the country and of the American people, neither side should continue to pursue the inflammatory actions that they are doing now, because that would only further provoke the two sides.
It's not just theatrics. They are trying to impeach/convict him to prevent him from running again in 2024. Sorry, I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure most of us are sick of this BS one way or another.

I think Cheeto is done after the impeachment vote on Wednesday. The knives are out for him now with more high ranking Republicans supporting impeachment.

https://www.cnn.com/webview/politics...e1db20e8ae23c5]

Wyoming's Liz Cheney, the third-ranking GOP leader in the House, announced in a statement today that she will vote to impeach President Trump, saying that he "summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack."

"There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution," she said in the statement.

"On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic.

Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough. The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.
I will vote to impeach the President."

If the GOP wants to remain relevant as a political party, impeachment is the best way to get rid of Trump.

Get your popcorn ready for tomorrow's impeachment vote!

Oh I am aware one of the anti-Trump side's goals is to prevent him from ever running again in future presidential elections. Personally, I am not convinced this is a good move because:

1) the Democrats have 8 days. Is there really enough time to complete all the required legal steps to successfully conclude an impeachment? Pence is unlikely to invoke the 25th Amendment to kick Trump out.

2) even if the Democrats have successfully impeached Trump, the polarization of the US population does not change one bit. In fact, getting Trump impeached might only make the matter worse. If you are at all familiar with the Prime Ministership in Thailand, you will know that even though the extremely popular Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted, the next several Thai PMs were pretty much considered to be either Thaksin's proxies or his spiritual successors. The red-yellow division in Thailand remained strong for quite some time after Thaksin got kicked out. Currently, there is no indication of anyone in the Trump camp to step into a Trump proxy / successor role like that, but I would be completely unsurprised if Ivanka were to give it a go at the next or one of the future presidential elections.

Trumpism is alive and a reality that the US will continue to deal with for some time. It is not just going to die off by barring Trump from future presidential elections.

trump lost the election and no one in the republican party wants another trump family member/proxy rfunning for prez. The trump name is trash.

1) Impeachment and conviction process will continue into the Biden Administration

2) Thailand is an extremely young democracy and quasi-military dictatorship - not really comparable. Republicans will dump Trump once he's out of office. This is to prevent him from running as a third party fringe candidate. The fringe right will find some other cause to rally around, just watch. Ivanka literally has nothing going for her other than her looks - have we even heard her speak publicly outside of shilling for her father?

It might be true that the Republican politicians / Republican Party do not want another Trump family member (or Trump himself) or a proxy running for POTUS again, but based on the amount of voter support there is for Trump himself right now, I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of seeing another person with affiliations to Trump running for presidency just yet. Among US voters, the Trump name could still either be toxic or gold.

Trying to erase the Trump era and return America to where it was before he came along, will only bring it back to the very conditions that made it possible for him to come to power in the first place. Real change is needed.

Preventing Trump from running im 2024 opens the door for a more competent populist to come along. One who will likely be a lot closer to the boogeyman far-right authoritarian the TDS sufferers make Trump out to be. People are increasingly becoming desperate and growing tired of the establishment ignoring them. They will turn to anyone offering a change from that. Four years of Biden was probably the worst thing to happen in oder to prevent another Trump from coming along.

If the establishment politicians and media will treat a populist outsider like Trump like this, how do you think a populist outsider from the Left will be received and treated?

"The Squad" of progressive Democrats have already shown they have no backbone and can not resist the establishment. They ran on policies like Medicare 4 All, promising to force a vote, yet when they wielded actual power in Pelosi's nomination as Speaker, they bent the knee to the establishment. At the end of the Democratic primaries, instead of holding to their principles, Tulsi, Yang, Bernie, etc all bent the knee to the establishment and endorsed Biden in the end. Warren had the chance to endorse Bernie and potentially swing the primaries back into his favour, yet she proved yet again to be a Hillary drone. Politicians can't even get through a term without being convinced to step back in line and beat that establishment drum.

There is no resisting the establishment, whether it's on the right or the left - different sides of the same coin. While Trump is by no means innocent of wrongdoing, he is paying the price for upsetting the establishment. A progressive populist outsider president will get much of the same treatment.

Rather than bringing the right and left together to remove the establishment from power, the media is dividing everyone. A divided country isn't going to challenge or change the system. The news is supposed to be a tool to keep governments in check, not keep them in power.

If anything, Ivanka's husband Jared Kushner might have a shot at Prez with father-in-law's base plus all his Jewish roots/connections/$$$$. If he can act moderate and 'Republican' in public and have a goon to be the ultra-right fanbase stoker.

On another note, those friggin Republicans that are like 60+ (who don't plan on running again and have nothing to lose by going against Trump) should vote to impeach his ass just as a parting gift on his way out. Save the soul of the Republican party.

If he has so much voter support how come he lost the popular vote and the electoral collage last election. The big problem is money. No one with any real money will donate to him. All his core supporters are broke. That's why they have to raise money on funding platforms to go to Washington D.C. toilet paper USA sent 80 buses full of people plus gave them free hotel rooms.

Republican politicians only supported trump to help their careers. You are going to have a dozen plus run for the nomination next election.

The camp Auschwitz, Jews will not replace us crowd will never vote for kushner. Plus I don't think he wants the job.
