MB C-Class Reviews Info?

Parents are thinking of going with a W205 C Class 4 matic, taking advantage of current deals in anticipation of the 2019 facelifted model.

I don't know much about MB. Any red flags to be aware of? He wants me to check the car out with him this weekend.

Thanks

tofu1413 06-22-2018 08:21 AM

will be wise to lease one.

if anything goes weird, dump the lease at the end, if its been great then buy out and keep it.

I got a buddy of mine at MB that i can refer you guys to as well!

lol exactly what I thought, MB is giving me a C300 estate 2nd wee of July can give you a full breakdown then.

Eff-1 06-23-2018 10:38 AM

Going for c300 4 matic. Finance rates right now are appealing with lots of manufacture incentives plus a decent trade in on their 3-series. Normally I would be asking for salespeople referrals too but my dad has a salesguy he likes so we are stuck with him. Thanks though for the offers!

With MB of course I know there is always a high maintenance cost but at least if there are consistent problems to be aware of, then we can avoid it now. This gen has 4 years of history now too, which is nice.

C class ? You mean the ubiquitous Chinese transportation device of Richmond ? As stated above just lease it.

Nokiss 06-23-2018 03:05 PM

Not very good on gas

HonestTea 06-25-2018 09:18 AM

I'm daily-ing one right now, fully loaded '16 C300 4MATIC. I love this car, it's not the fastest and it won't win many drag races but its comfortable, looks nice and luxurious.

The '15 has an engine wrist pin issue that is covered under warranty. Excessive wind noise on some cars. Other than that, just your average German reliability.

!LittleDragon 06-25-2018 02:07 PM

Look out for interior issues.

Don't own one but I've rented a 2014 C300 in San Francisco back in 2015 and a 2017 bi-turbo C63 last year in Vegas. I enjoyed the C300, didn't have any issues but the car had 2000 miles on it when I picked it up.

The C63 on the other hand, the interior was falling apart. I know they're rental cars and are subject to more abuse but c'mon... the chrome shouldn't be peeling after 10,000 miles. I almost cut my finger trying to open the center arm rest.

Rented a 2017 CLA and 2017 C300 last year in Vancouver from Enterprise.
Drove both on the highway to Banff and back. Both cars were also 4matic, so winter driving was fantastic despite having all season tires.

Obviously the interior was more comfortable on the C300, but the engine on both were the turbo 4's. Both moved along nicely, but the C300 felt much more composed and "planted" over the CLA.

The 7 speed auto was fine, but I hear that for 2018 it has the 9 speed.

Thanks guys. I did a test drive and some other research and I agree with all of it. Good stuff.

Benz > Audi > BMW in the latest round of face lifts IMO.

Last I checked Mercs are outselling BMW. The latest round of interior updates though on Audi pulls it quite close.

Have a 2017 C300 4Matic (2 years) and drove a AMG G63 (1 year) for awhile, the build quality and interior materials is far better than BMW of same generation and it's clear on the road you see more Mercs (esp White C300 LOL) than Audi and BMW lately.

- Noise insulation is on par with entry level luxury Euro sedans.
- Looks more expensive than it really is, esp AMG sports package with the AMG wheels (don't settle for Elegant / Classic package, looks like C-Lai mobile extreme)
- Warranty 4 years (leased), no major issues, just small blacked screen on Infotainment system
- 4MATIC is pretty planted - drove it in snow with all-seasons, very confident
- Interior on 2015+ C is a major upgrade from previous chassis where interiors are hard plastic. The B & CLA level is the lowest so don't compare it with that, C300/400 and E class onward it gets much better.
- Mileage - conservative on Sports/Sports plus you should get 10-11 liters/100KM in city and as low as 7-8L/100KM highway
- Techwise, quite loaded. 360 camera is great for parking!, little things like illuminated and touch to enter doors, 3 color selection for LED interior, woodgrain + polished aluminum touches inside, and that Levinson sound system (upgrade) are great. Def opt for full LED headlights if you get C class. Parking assist is hard to use IMO, don't bother esp if you are decent at driving & parallel parking.

After driving around in the C-300 wagon for the past few days here's what I can say
-Very comfortable seats are great
-interior is nicely put together, wood on the dash, vents all very satisfying
-pretty quiet when cruising
-surprisingly good fuel consumption when driving like a saint (push it a bit and it gets considerably worse)
-Good low-mid range power (top end dies off quickly)
-quick to accelerate
-command is easy enough to use, loving the scroll wheel hating the touchpad but it does help with input
-wished it had better safety tech (lane keep assist, adaptive cruise)
-360camera one of the best
-no apple carplay which isn't a big deal but would be nice to have

Pretty much the same impressions I had when I took it for a spin last month. Re: CarPlay and the power - CarPlay is coming in 2019 finally and the 2019 motor has been retuned for a bit more top end. Interestingly enough it's no faster than before, seems like they specifically wanted a more linear power band with a bit more on top.

Have you tried the self parking? I was really impressed with how well it parked and unparked.

The one I'm considering rings in around $62K plus taxes so probably on the very outer bounds of what I want to spend (A RDX will run me $10K less).

!Aznboi128 07-16-2018 04:57 AM

The one I got was $58k so it's priced with 10k of options already.

In terms of the self-park, I would have to say Mercedes is one of the best. It's quick to find spots and was able to accurately park every time (only tried it a hand full but still)

tofu1413 07-16-2018 08:19 AM

Face lift version will add a C43 wagon to the mix.

I demo'ed a C43 overnight the other day and was quite impressed. It drove more like an Audi S4 than a mercedes C class - responsive and nimble. Nice burps from the exhaust too (no sport exhaust on the demo)

Mercedes is really pushing out a few cool cars!

^ theres no way to get into sports mode without the burp though

When the C43 first came out, I just kept tapping the gas and it burped all the way from no2rd bridge to arthur laing.

tofu1413 07-16-2018 08:53 AM

I drove it on individual mode, everything on comfort except engine response. it was a nice car to drive around town.

the factory oem tires were not that great. not enough grip and theyre run flats, that probably makes it ride a tad stiffer than i like it to be.

its fun and a compact ride. a nice everyday machine (if nothing breaks) The interior is worlds better than the F30 3 series

HonestTea 07-16-2018 09:17 AM

360 camera is amazing and I use the self-parking regularly for parallel parking. It's a bit iffy when it's dark and raining outside but it works flawlessly most of the time.

LuHua 07-16-2018 11:02 PM

Huh, there're more of these than I'd expect on RS. Daily a '16 myself, picked it up as a CPO for around $50k incl. extended warranty and maintenance. Only thing is the weird transmission response on the 7-speed, the newer 9-speeds response is a lot smoother. Mileage is surprisingly good, getting around 9-9.5 avg commuting between PoMo to Richmond daily.

Anyone else finding the sport package surprisingly stiff?

yray 07-17-2018 07:49 AM

^those prirelli run flats don't help

plop it in decent tires, should be better in grip and ride quality

Sw0op 07-17-2018 10:06 AM

got a '17 C300 CPO fully loaded a month ago for sub 50k with 10k km and the 2 year extended warranty so I got 5 year bumper to bumper and 6 year powertrain....great car..can definitely feel the luxuriousness inside..car doesn't have too much power where its overkill but def enough power and torque to pass...ended up financing it at 0.9%..at that rate it was a no brainer imo..

only thing is that the gear shifting from 2nd to 3rd feels a bit jerky and looks like mods are a pain in the ass..to replace the grill I have to take off the bumper and it looks like it would take ~2 hours..yikes...absolutely love the 360 camera though... now to tint or not tint..

Tint it, interior gets way too toasty in this heat.

Under 50k? What options/packages? Just curious because it sounds like you got quite the deal. I think mine was a 9/2016 model with 14k on the odo. After taxes, fees, tire and rim protection, 4-year maintenance and extended warranty it was around $51k or 52k all in. Surprised yours is newer and cheaper.

Premium package + Premium Plus + Sport Package...pretty much everything I think except for night package, heated steering wheel and power trunk..w/e

I didn't get the tire and rim protection though and 3 year prepaid maintenance but if I had gotten those 2 I would still be sub $50k

its pretty toasty inside without tint yea and I don't like the lack of privacy...all the others out there don't seem to be tinted though...

How do you guys like the fake leather ARTICO?

I find it strange that A4 and 3-series offer real leather standard but if you want leather in your C300 you need to pay 2K
