One of the factors leading to the failures of the fastcat program was this situation, where the NDP tried to revive a dying industry by providing work to unexperienced local builders. Let alone giving work to builders that don't have the capacity to build the boats.

The fast cats were a flawed approach from the beginning. Even aside from their waves causing damage. I don’t care if my crossing is 15 minutes shorter. I’d be fine even if it was 15 minutes longer. Once you’re on it’s like a mini cruise. What needs to be reduced is the wait times for loading.
