I totally lost track what this thread is even about. Are people trying to argue that white folks don't compromise the majority of individuals of the sports Manic! is referencing? Of course they do, it's all about barrier of entry in terms of financially, as well as culture. You should see the looks I get when I'm skiing down in the States/Canada, most of the time I'm the only colored guy on the hill. It's always been that way. Not sure what that has to do with this topic though. |
Could it be not many minorities live in areas accessible to wilderness areas? Vancouver is a bit of an outlier here but most metro areas are far away from nature. Just a thought. When I was in Utah, there were plenty of minorities (East Asians/South Asians) visiting the big name national parks (Zion, Bryce), but it was still overwhelmingly white. Even then I figured most of the Asians were just drive thru visitors while the white folks camped out. In the small towns/rural areas/wilderness, I was the only Asian for miles (unless you count Native Americans) |

They probably thought it was sacred and the abode of the gods. It took a heathen white man to say "hey let's get on top of that sucker". Of course Sir Edmund Hillary wouldn't have succeeded without his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay. |
White people amirite |

Sorry if I missed this in the article, but how did they know that the 2 guys were trying to save her? Were there witnesses? Excuse my skepticism, but based on their past actions, it seems like they were just doing something stupid and died. |
White privilege in North America is real. Though it's not like there aren't rich people in other countries like India, China, Africa, Middle East. To blame your circumstance on external factors is a slippery slope and would eventually lead to a victims mentality. The real struggle is being black in America where there is statistical data that they have a harder time finding well paying work, receive more random searches, and heavier sentences. On topic. The real heroes are lions bay and squamish SAR for retrieving their bodies. They should have received that gofundme donation for helicoptering their bodies out of the falls. It is disgraceful otherwise. I'm pretty sure these people made a shit load of money from being Internet celebrities. I wouldn't doubt jumping in to try and save her would be something these guys would do. It seems to fit their character, in terms of disregarding consequences. In the news reports, it sounds like the reports were made by witnesses that were there that day. |
^it was actually lions bay sar and squamish sar |
