IMO, it's not a "sport"... but none the less, it's serious business when your hobby can draw this kind of attention though.  
My personal definition of a sport is a game that involves physical exertion where two individuals (or more) directly interact against each other.
There isn't physical exertion in video gaming or chess or poker, so IMO, it's not a sport. It's a game.
There is physical exertion in golf but you're not directly interacting with each other's play. IMO, it's a competition, like track and field.

You missed the easy ones, look at all the fat fuck pro football players. | inspiring health and sportsmanship, involving kids in the community, donating time and money back into causes related to hockey, etc.
i'm sure the impact somone like Crosby has far outweighs even some researcher or doctor who spends time toiling on issues that are minute in the grand scale of things, and who may make as much, if not more than the pro athlete.

Call it whatever you want. everyone is now trying to now profit off e-sports. A League of Legends franchise costs 13 million US. Billionaire sports team owners are buying them up. The NBA has started its own E-league.
