$ 25,000 Average tuition per international student
+ 15,000 Average annual spending per international student
-----------

-----------
480 Million impact to the Canadian economy due to the 12k student withdrawal

Maybe more since these are oil kids

Let's keep arguing
Oil prices were down significantly in July compared to June, but they're expected to go up again soon with the sanctions on Iran.

That sounds like a big number, but spread across the country that's not much of anything.

Honestly quite surprised to hear that they are the 4th biggest body of international students. For a long time, I know China and India are the top 2. At the places that I have dealt with in the past, Korea and Japan make for a solid 3rd and 4th places. And then it was a lot of SE Asian countries -- Singapore / Malaysian / Thailand / Indonesia etc. (which I tend to lump together since it is a bit difficult for me to tell them apart)

But as Underscore says -- 12k KSA students spread across the country doesn't really show up as that many at individual cities. BC, for example, has ~12 - 13% of the Canadian population. So even if we assume a similar 12% of all those KSA students stayed in Vanocuver, that's only 1440 students spread across multiple universities and colleges.

That's 12,000 across the entire country.
According to News 1130:

https://www.news1130.com/2018/08/08/...audi-students/

there are 15,000+ KSA students in Canada. UBC has ~280 Saudi nationals enrolled, with 80% of them being state-sponsored. UVic has 85.

That really isn't very many.

Most people here seems to have the impression that all the Saudi's students here are from a very wealthy background but many are not. I have a student that I was just recently training over a span of 6 months. Him and his sisters are here due to the scholarship they have received. Both are extremely depressed that they have to leave as one of them has just a semester left to graduate. Both are great people and have been here for 5 years.

You also have some doctors from Saudi doing their residency in remote locations of Canada where they are the only doctor for that town. Pretty crappy situation for a lot of the individuals who have started to call Canada home

I would say that the majority are though.

The Doctor's who need to complete their residency are not given a choice on where they will complete it. My family doctor from South Africa had to finish his residency in Northern BC as he had no other options.

Ignoring your remark but they don't receive their scholarship or funding to complete their schooling

I'm not worried about the Doctor's leaving as they will surely find employment in another country. Its the population that they are leaving whom won't have access to a Doctor for sometime as the Country is short of physicians in the medical field.

residents might make closer to minimum wage given how many hours they have to put in.... whether it's in Bumfuck, BC or otherwise

and losing medical personnels in rural areas will be a big deal

This young king of Saudi Arabia sounds like he is instructing his officials to these tactics to harm Canada as part of his baby tantrum.

-such a knee jerk reaction by the Saudis in response to Canada's stance against that country's violation of human rights.

the largest military hardware export in Canadian history is, you guessed it, with the kingdom in question (15 billion CAD)

Quote:
The future of the $11bn weapons deal also remains uncertain, said Cesar Jaramillo, executive director of Project Ploughshares, a Canadian anti-war group that has been one of the most vocal critics of the weapons deal.

Global Affairs Canada did not respond to Al Jazeera's request for comment on whether the agreement would go ahead despite the diplomatic dispute.

While Jaramillo said he welcomed the government raising concerns about the jailing of Saudi human rights activists, the more relevant concerns around the deal relate to the likelihood the weapons will be misused.

To date, he said Ottawa has largely given Saudi Arabia a pass on human rights violations in order to go ahead with the transfer, and it would be ironic if Saudi Arabia were to cancel the deal now.

"Canada has bent over backwards over years and assumed what we consider to be a no-matter-what attitude," Jaramillo told Al Jazeera.

Whatever happens, Jaramillo said it would be an "indefensible" reflection of "policy incoherence" for Canada to stick with the agreement in the face of the Saudi government's recent statements and actions.

"It would detract from and undermine Canada's purported firm stance around human rights in Saudi Arabia," he said.

"You can't take a firm stand on human rights, and on the side [say], 'but can we please keep the deal, pretty please?' It can't work that way
no wonder the rest of the world thinks Ottawa is a joke

It has been negotiated that there will be a 30 day grace period for residence students, while the KSA figures out transfers and Canadian doctors can adapt their schedules. So be on the look out for cheap cars in a month.
