When I have to go to Aberdeen, I rather park in the front or side street and put a dollar in to the meter than to go inside the parkade.

Jmac 08-07-2018 01:50 PM

I don't drive places where this might be an issue.

In the rare instance I have to, it's not worth getting stressed out, and certainly not worth a confrontation, over a parking spot

I like the parkade so fun watching people park and act a fool.

These threads/responses go to show the level of maturity of our members. There are bigger things to worry about in life.

Even if the other driver backed off (after an altercation, a yelling match, or a waiting game) and gave you the spot, would you actually feel safe leaving your car there?

Maybe you're just not trying hard enough, OP

Which is what I do as well if I'm forced to go to Aberdeen, a couple of the parking lots on Alexandra Road are brutal as well. This along with just the shit show that is Richmond driving is the reason that I have rules around when I go to Richmond.

twitchyzero 08-07-2018 06:35 PM

getting your passenger to stand in a spot is a legitimate tactic
too bad I got ran over for trying it once in Richmond

!LittleDragon 08-07-2018 06:56 PM

I don't go places during peak times, can honestly say this has never happened to me. I just don't like crowded places.

I wouldn't care less because I avoid going to crowded places. Even living across Metrotown I rather walk 5mins to go T&T and superstore than to drive 10+ mins and then spend time looking for a parking. I also avoid going to shopping center after noon on weekends to avoid the crowd. If I see a line up at a restaurant I get out and go find another one with no line ups (other than that cheesecake place in metro have to line up starting at 9:30 even then I waited an hour and a half.).

As Vancouver population grow these situation is bound to happen and is not something we can all avoid. But I guess most people would think about damaging the other person but would they actually do it?

My parking spot is my safe space

You can avoid an altercation by handling it like a grown adult.

No dude, if someone takes your spot it means you lost face, and you HAVE to get it back, by any means necessary SwiftRage

Same thing as when someone changes lanes and ends up in front of you. Defend your face and honor at all times!

teggy604 08-07-2018 10:26 PM

Saw that happen one time. Dude stole parking spot from a guy driving a lifted dually. Well he later found his car half way down the parking lot. Moral of the story> Don't piss off a guy driving a lifted dually.

Badhobz 08-07-2018 11:16 PM

Ugh, moral of the story seems to be guys who feel the need to drive lifted duallys are usually childish and generally overcompensating pieces of shit.

Just move the fuck on.

punkwax 08-08-2018 06:35 AM

I actually had a guy at Costco a few months ago recognize that someone was going to steal the spot he was leaving that I was waiting for. He pulled back in and reversed out the other direction to block the bastard. Faith in humanity temporarily restored.

I haven’t had the opportunity to do this for anyone myself yet but I’m planning on doing it moving forward.

quasi 08-08-2018 06:44 AM

I never park near the door I park at the back of the lot and would never fight over a parking spot.

That's exactly what I do. Suss out the surroundings before I leave. Oh there's a douchebag? Ok, fuck you. Hahaha.

Honestly, I try not to sweat the small shit. My energy is better spent elsewhere. Plus, you can have the measly spot and I'll park somewhere else. It might take me a bit longer....long enough for you to leave your car unattended. :ifyouknow:

Bouncing Bettys 08-08-2018 01:07 PM

At my first job, our manager, the proud new owner of an MG Midget, decided to show off and park right up front between two wooden planters. When everyone got off work, we lifted up his car and put it in the stall parallel. It was like the hallway cart scene in Austin Powers. I didn't stick around to find out how he got it out of there. Geo Metros seemed to be prime targets for similar pranks in HS.

This one has a happy ending.

MarkyMark 08-08-2018 02:00 PM

I'd probably tell the person what I think of them and find another spot. I'm sure as shit not going to waste my time calling the police over it.

Both, the cop does a good job deescalating while being firm that they can't block a spot off for someone else.

CivicBlues 08-08-2018 03:48 PM

Love that cop's New Yawk accent -

Pawk that cah somewhea else you fuckin' goombas

Badhobz 08-08-2018 04:23 PM

Ditto. The cop looks like a skinny version of tf2 heavy

nsx042003 08-08-2018 05:17 PM

problem with this is even if you win and get the spot, i'd be worried about my own car. I know someone who got their car vandalized because of a parking spot.
