Does anybody actually care about the latest and greatest revision to $500k+ supercars? Shocking news... every year Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche add 50hp and slightly more aero, ship cars on faster "stock" tires, and not surprisingly beat their own previous lap records at the Ring. That car is a caged racecar and driven by a pro looks like a handful, there is absolutely no way that an average Joe can even get within a country mile of the performance envelope of that car.

What are the chances that a mainlander will drive this Aventador SVJ in the Lower Mainland? -back to school purchase of a Lambo for them by their parents?

Rather an old 80/90's car instead. But that's just me.

Agreed, I've always been a car guy... but I find these days supercars are boring as fuck... can't afford any of them, never will afford any of them, and their performance capabilities are so high that nobody can ever use them. Most exciting car action scene I've seen in a movie in years was a 1986 BMW 535i in the latest Mission Impossible movie.

I did enjoy watching the McLaren 675/720S/whatever it was (can't remember) with Chris Harris on one of last season's Top Gear shows though... but it's few and far between these days.

The only time more than a fraction of the potential of these things can be used is on the track, and even then only a professional driver (likely a racing driver) would be able to use it at those levels. But if they already drive racecars for a living, why would they go to a track day in a car like this and push it to 100%?

Maybe that's why it seems like the guys at Lambo have lost their creativity and the Huracan/Aventador just look like a slightly tweaked Gallardo/Murcielago. I'd find it pretty boring to be making insanely high performance machines that will only ever actually be used at 10% by rich twats that want to look cool. They could put out a fraction of the power and almost none of their clients would ever notice.

I can't say any of the car guys I know show any interest in them, not like in the past where a normal person could have a hope of actually pushing a supercar a bit should they ever manage to own one. Back then you could dream of becoming well off and buying whichever supercar you argued was the best and blasting around in it. Nowadays even if you won the lottery you still couldn't afford and probably wouldn't even be allowed to buy most of these things, and even if you do get your mitts on one it's like you said, you couldn't get even vaguely near the limits of it. When you can't even dream about it, why bother?

I jizzed my pants when I saw these in Richmond Center poster shop back in the 90s

1995 Diablo SE30 Jota gets 603hp, 3200lb
2019 Aventador SVJ gets 759hp, 3500lb (after 24yrs)

old men yelling at the clouds

look i get it, we're not their clientele...but why shouldn't the industry continue to push the performance envelope?

15s off lap-time is nothing to scoff at...advancements in active aero

they are ultimately a business; they are not gonna steal headlines, gain word of mouth, free PR etc. if their half a million dollar limited flagship model 'only' puts out a 300hp

why can't we just appreciate it for what it is...one of the final naturally-aspirated, non-hybrid V12 sports car in history

I see these as research vehicles. The tech in them will eventually make its way down to regular consumer cars.

We live in a time where a Camry is faster than my MR2 Turbo and my 5000 pound Hyundai is as fast as a Countach.

But yah, I lost interest in supercars after the Diablo. The Murcielago that came after it was bland looking in comparison. I'll take a 96 Diablo Roadster or a 89 Countach over this any day. Because pop up lights

So, I guess you're saying there is a chance that this might be a better car than a 1993 corolla? I'm not sure I'm convinced.

half million dollar car by dolce & gabbana or 30 grand Honda Type R that you can beat to shit with relatively cheap repairs.

not to mention, you can easily do maintenance on it yourself and have like 460,000 dollars left over.

choices,choices.

the poor stay poor pretending their rich, the rich stay rich pretending their poor.
imagine how much you could invest or create some memories around the globe with those extra funds,or be stuck in traffic with a really cool car with repair bills that cost a used bmw

I'm not exactly an experienced rider so it might have something to do with.

But I find the ride on Ducati rough as hell. I mean, it got so much to give, but yet it's so raw that it kinda scares me when I try to go fast with it.

It's like a monster not willing to be tamed.

Especially when comparing to other sports bikes I had experience with (Yamaha R6 and Suzuki Busa) as they are relatively easy to ride and go fast with. Not sure if it's the suspension or anything like that. But the road feedback is terrifying on a Ducati.

Really? I thought Ducati's, and BMW are easy to ride. They got shit loads of rider tech, and modes compared to Japanese bikes at the limit.

I rode an older 1199 and from some reading, they seem to be notoriously bad comparing to say a newer 899 which supposed to be more refined since the Audi takeover.

The gas is pretty wild. I go too soft, it doesn't budge much. I go a tiny bit more, and it goes wild. I remember I'd lift the bike at every gear change the first 5min in.

The R6/Busa in comparison, it's just like the 125 scooter I used to ride in Taiwan... just way faster. But you'd feel in control at any given time.

I didn't mean for my first post to come off so salty, pushing the boundaries of what is "theoretically" possible is what is cool about F1 despite how far removed it is from anything I'll ever drive.

I just get more excited when I hear about manufacturers doing stuff that is accessible for mere mortals... the BMW M2 Competition, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, stuff like that.

In any event, the more cars I drive, the more I appreciate simple cars that communicate with a driver and do what is asked out of them - the E36 BMW being the example I am most familiar with.
