| What's with the blacked out lower bumper on so many cars?
I first noticed this on the McLarens and then realized there are loads of vehicles made in the last few decades with the lower center piece of the bumper blacked out, creating this saggy jowl look:
From a supercar 
to a family car 
to an SUV 
to trucks 
And loads of others that I've seen on the road. I assume it's a style thing but it just makes a lot of them look like the middle piece of the bumper is missing or broken off.

My guess is that people scratch the front lower fenders often and the black colour is easiest way to hide any scratches or damages

I'm sure it serves some design purpose, probably similar to how black plastic fender bits above the wheel well make the ride height seem higher on SUVs, and how black trim along the bottom of the skirts and f/r bumper make the car seem less "fat"
