Car Battery Charger, Booster, Tender Recommendations Found 2 products by Motomaster and Noco. Both Stamped with warnings of containing cancer causing agents, birth defects and other reproductive harm. Is this normal? Are there other alternatives without these health risks? Any insight is appreciated, thanks. |
Yep because of California. It's put on almost everything. https://www.newsweek.com/heres-why-e...ifornia-798750 |
Ctek chargers. Nothing else. Most of all premium brands buys and relabels ctek chargers. Yes they are a bit pricier but it's worth it. |
I also second Ctek chargers. I have both the lithium US & MUS 4.3 test and charge chargers. I revived my lithium battery that i had on my bike when it was stored and revived a full size Costco car battery that was completely dead aswell and a bunch of old bike batteries before i switched to lithium. If you are concerned about the potential hazard then just leave it charging in the garage or something away from the family thats what i did. |
Ctek |
The warning you see is a legal requirement for pretty much anything and everything in the state of California, so this is "normal" so to say. If you can, get a Ctek like the others have recommended. I don't think Canadian Tire sells it anymore, but I managed to get it on sale a few years ago for $60 and change. It's been awesome. I also have a Motomaster charger as well, and it has been solid, but I still gravitate towards to the Ctek for routine battery maintenance (i.e. not driving for extended periods of time / winter storage etc.) |
WARNING: OP contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. |
The only problem I had with the CTEK was the buttons stopped working after a while. I've had mine for 10 plus years but still works, just gotta push the buttons really hard to change to the right mode. Reading online, the NOCO equivalents seem to be comparable anyway. |
bought a Noco g7200 on sale at Canadiantire ......check amazon.ca for it slightly cheaper like 5 or 10 dollars less works well, very compact...before this i had a piece of shit blue box that would put like 2 amps and take forever..decided to replace it,48 hours vs 9hr for a full charge...no regrets. |
The Noco's got a lot of reviews from Amazon, should be arriving later today. Thanks to those for the helpful input. |
I used a CTEK 3300 for 10+ years. It works, but never shows the battery as fully charged, even if I leave it plugged in for 1+ days. I bought a Noco g3500 for $50 during one of the Amazon Prime days. Works even better, retired the CTEK. |
i have a dewalt unit for a few years now. No problem here. Can also jump start. |
Any battery tenders that have 2 outputs to charge 2 batteries at the same time? |
They all do. Just add some jumper cables between cars. Yes I’m serious. |

Got a cheap $30 black and decker one from Amazon last month and it was able to revive a dead car battery having it plugged overnight . It also works as a maintainer too . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
can anyone recommend a good ctek or Noco unit for around 60 bucks? Can be local or online |
Have used 3 different battery tenders including ctek, Noco and a cheap Canadian tire branded one and they all worked the same. I think with the more expensive ones you are just paying for marketing and hype. |
I have had a couple of Canadian Tire trickle chargers. One eventually stopped working but I have no idea how old it was. They work fine. |
If anyone is looking for a charger, Amazon.ca has a sale on Noco chargers right now. The G3500 is $57.59. I think I paid $50 for it on Prime day a few years ago, so that's a pretty good price. https://www.amazon.ca/NOCO-Genius-Ul...YZ3SHX78P&th=1 |
Thanks! I was just going to buy one of these. I actually ran over my old motomaster charger. It still works but I'm afraid to leave it unattended. Very pleased w my noco genius boost - i'm sure this will be good too. |

I have those Aukey/Anker boosters from Amazon for about 2 years. They've worked fine for me and my dad. 1 of them stopped working after 8 months and the manufacture replaced the unit. So far so good. I've been looking to get a better quality one as I'm skeptical the ones I have will last > 2 years. |
I have a GB40 https://www.amazon.ca/NOCO-GB40-Ultr.../dp/B015TKUPIC it's boosted everything we've tried this year - dozens of times. It's also got a mode where you can just tell it to feed 12v. Super handy when I was stripping the z3m roadster. Didn't have a battery in it but we were able to just attach the NOCO to the battery leads and operate the seats, power softtop, radio, cluster etc. |
Where I work at we have the Noco Gb70 we use it to boost 3l Diesel engine and will last multiple jumps. Tempted to order one as it is on sale again. Didn’t jump on it a few days ago as it was a bit cheaper. Now wondering if I should wait til Black Friday. |
I was looking at the GB40 this morning and it was $135. Just picked one up for $103. Thanks. |
