Unless quite a bit cheaper than competition, I don't see enthusiasts choosing this over the GTI.
That's basically it's direct competitor.

Specs are great and all for journalists to praise and for people to discuss, but from what I've noticed, at the end of the day, when it's putting their own money down, people are still going go with what's popular or whatever emblem they're fans of.

agreed
remember the hype when the Gen coupe came out? it died down pretty quickly and the coupe was discontinued in 2016
if they do some proper marketing and PR, it may still have a shot

I actually don't like owning a popular car. I like cars you don't see every day, which is why I like my 8 - there is a special connection when you see another one, rather than "yeah, this is the 10th Civic/Mustang I have seen today."

As for the emblem, though, I do agree with you. I will probably stick something Japanese, though I can see the Veloster N having a chance in the States, seeing how grossly marked up the CTR is over there.

I wish Hyundai would just give us the I30N wagon instead

Too bad this is just a concept. It has enough outrageous body lines to compete with the Type R.

It was also discontinued so people wouldn't be confused why Hyundai has a brand and a car called Genesis. New coupe is coming for the Genesis brand

even if it was still around, the sales would be hurting just like the BRZ/86

I'm just saying, the sporty efforts from Korea has been great but haven't made any lasting effect on the market this side

most will stick with what's well-established, BMW M, Mord Fustang, Mazda Miata etc.

maybe the I30N, Stinger will change that around

I see this in writing a lot... but I tend to see BRZ/FRS/86's like 3-4x a day on my commute. They're everywhere, like Starbucks or McDonalds.

Did they just make a lot of them and they're not selling well in terms of production/sale ratio? Or is it just here in this city, everyone has one, but they're not as common elsewhere?
