Thank fucking god. I’ve hated having to choose between charging or my on board GPS. Being forced to use Apple maps has made me fucking HATE carplay

I just updated to iOS 12. Updated Google Maps. Going out to car now to try it out. Thanks again Badhobz. Doesn't look too complicated to set up.

Here's the honest truth.
After using both I prefer Apple Maps and here's why.
-pinch to zoom
-able to navigate the map easily
-can use Siri to navigate me to my location
Yes yes yes, we all know Apple Maps sucked big time from the beginning but it has gotten better. I mean if we compared Google Maps when it first came out to map quest that shit was horrible too. But I get it, why use something new when the old is better. Imo, on CarPlay Apple Maps just has more functionality and works better for now. Who knows things may change but till then Apple Maps for me.

everything you listed came down to Apple's implementation of Google Maps in-car interface
Maps has come a long way and they will continue making it better, it certainly has the leg up in ease of use being a native app
but Google Maps still has the far superior data and thus more efficient routing
pinch to zoom would be nice but not a dealbreaker...lack of Siri integration is almost a dealbreaker...would also like to see them include 'search along route' just like in the actual app

We actually have our CarPlay turned off on our Phones as it uses a huge amount of data. Any idea how we can fire it up just get data for the google maps?
Edit: maybe it’s the HondaLink that used the data?
