Long's is operated by Shanghainese -- at least I'm pretty sure their boss lady was speaking Shanghainese to a customer. And you can tell that boss lady is sharp and very quick-thinking. It should be noted that the Caucasian lady (shouting "Go back to Hong Kong") has since apologized for her remark. Racists or not, I think it is worth bearing in mind that the comment came out in the moment of a heated shouting match between the two parties, and those heated moments, tempers flare and red mist might just take over, making people say or do things that they would later regret.

I am not condoning her behaviour (of telling people to go back somewhere in that manner). But I am saying that given the situation and how she is just a normal average everyday citizen, the general public should really drop the attacks on her now that she has apologized.

Her apology may or may not be sincere -- I have no way of knowing the sincerity of it. But regardless, I think a little benefit of the doubt here would be appropriate.

The lady came off buffoonish, but Traum is right, sometimes people say things in a heated moment they regret.

Let's be honest as well, some might not admit it here either. There is an element in Canada where people who were either born here, or carry a deeper family lineage here, do feel that some immigrants are bringing their "culture" into Canada, changing the country's face, and not assimilating.

I hear all the time how many people get sick of the fact that Richmond can have business signs with literally no English, only Mandarin/Canto, etc. Her words certainly carry somewhat of a thought process to that.
