A friend of mine has returned to Hong Kong a few years after graduating from university -- this was a long time ago, probably ~20 yrs ago? He is Canadian -- that is to say, he has a Canadian passport. A few years ago he brought his non-Canadian wife to Canada to give birth to his son. They paid everything out of pocket, so his son would have fallen into this self-paying birth criteria. But I think it would be difficult to fault the birth and birthright citizenship as something to crack down on in this case because the father is Canadian.
I had an Indian ex-coworker that went back to India to get married. I dunno the whole situation, but some time after, the wife moved here, and some time after that, they had a kid. I dunno what residency status the wife had at the time of the child's birth, but in that case, I think it would wrong to deny the child of receiving Canadian citizenship too (since the father had citizenship).
Another more complicated case I can think of would be refugees, or people pursuing permanent residence pathways. What if a Ukrainian refugee were to give birth while she is on a refugee VISA here in Canada? There are also special permanent residency pathways created for people from Hong Kong. People in that category start off with just a student VISA or an OWP (open work permit), but the intention of the program is to establish a pathway to permanent residency. What would be the appropriate thing to do in those cases if the woman needs to give birth?

The fact that those numbers are all from Richmond tell you everything you need to know.

The fact that those numbers are all from Richmond tell you everything you need to know. | From your linked article, only 7% of Richmond births were to non residents.
Unique to B.C. was the birth tourism industry in Richmond, as 24 per cent of all births there in 2019-20 were to non-residents on account of a burgeoning birth tourism cottage industry, such as birthing hotels run out of homes for pregnant Chinese nationals on tourist visas.
But that phenomenon appears to have disappeared.
“The decline in visitor visas granted to Chinese nationals is reflected in British Columbia’s Richmond Hospital, once the epicentre of birth tourism, declining from 24 per cent pre-pandemic and only recovered partially to seven percent in 2023-24,” said Griffith

Interesting. This Hagh guy who violated his fifth deportation order is "non-verbal. " He is mute??

It was his fourth deportation order and the fifth time he had been removed from the country,
Sorry, legit question, does he fly into US and walk over from Point Roberts? I mean it's easy to do but I guess he / she keeps coming back from US cause he can? Somehow it's ok to fly into US but not Canada?
His gf better be hot as F

His gf better be hot as F | Article says he's American/Korean citizen. You can't be stopped from coming back into your own country. Plus his criminality, if you want to put it that way is only on the Canadian side, so likely a non issue to the US Border controls. If he's been deported to the US, I assume he's sneaking back over the border after. Or else he's been flying back to the US as an American citizen and then sneaking back in.

This Ruby chick is nothing more than background noise. Even the Liberals House Leader, Karina Gould, is basically an also-ran.
It is strictly a 2-horse race between Carney and Freeland.

Anyone could sign up for a liberal membership no cost so a bunch of cons including Tamara Lich did. They are all voting for Ruby. Will see how that effects the race.

Even the most strongest civil liberties advocate must have to agree this is stupidity. Guy like this is likely to commit heinous crimes like the murder at Burnaby Central Park!

Instead of being a cynical bastard and posting a link every effin time it happens, I am curious to know what the root cause(s) of this revolving door problem is.

lol it’s not my job to fix this shit, are you kidding me?
We have you know, judges, law enforcement, elected officials, mayors
20 fucking layers of bureaucracy and it’s my job to figure out the root causes? lol fuck off.
Want to know the issue? The system is irreparably broken and no one who is in a position to make change wants to be accountable?
Maybe when something like this happens to someone you know you can dig real deep within to figure out the problems.
