This is a relatable video and gets the political point across quite successfully.

As a piece of political advertisment, PP's Area 27 video is really, really meh.

The sad thing is that none of our politicians have ever turned a wrench, used an impact drill, cut a 2x4 with a circular saw, patched a hole in drywall, or even used a stud finder to hang a shelf.

You know, things that average Canadians have to do.

mikemhg 04-09-2025 09:39 AM

More "average" Canadians ordered something from Uber Eats than used an impact drill or circular saw :lol

No average Canadian is doing a track day either.

It's all performative/larping bullshit to pander to a certain demo.

Carney might as well do an ad sitting on the couch getting the munchies at 10PM and ordering a few McDoubles, maybe add a Smore McFlurry to make it more Canadian.

That's your average Canadian.

westopher 04-09-2025 09:41 AM

Drinking a Tim hortons diarrhea coffee and picking a fight on the internet about vaccine mandates that didn't actually happen 4 years ago.
That's how you appeal.

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 09:46 AM

I don't get it either why are politicians from both sides of the border always pandering to blue collar types (sorry no offense intended). You've got Trump crashing the economy to bring back factory worker jobs. Do these guys actually turn out to vote significantly more than white collar folks?

They're never standing in front of a cubicle farm telling us how we need to "Bring our jobs back from India/Philippines/etc." Or give us more tax deductions for home office expenses. Or cosplaying as a customer service agent with a headset and backroller. I'm sure the majority of actual working Canadians would relate to that much more than some bozo who's never lifted a finger put on a hard hat for some dumbass photo op.

Hondaracer 04-09-2025 09:50 AM

Those types of photos ops are for Union schills to get kickbacks for support.

My union “magazine” came to my door with a meme type of sketch drawing shitting on PP and saying vote NDP. I’m surprised I didn’t take a picture as even I thought it was in bad taste. I emailed them after that saying don’t send me this shit anymore.

The NDP who is the “people’s party” and pro worker let thousands of jobs be offshored and loss during their coalition with the liberals. So now Carney puts on a hard hat and pretends he supports factory workers so unions can pat themselves on the back when he’s elected and the status quo is maintained lol

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 09:54 AM

Well these union guys must be dumb as a sack of rocks when EVERY politician does the same photo op.

Tapioca 04-09-2025 09:57 AM

Blue collar voters have been solidly progressive/NDP supporters for decades. Now that the NDP has gone off the deep end in identity politics, blue collar voters are up for grabs. They're still a larger voting bloc than white collar voters, who have now gone to the centre-left.

mikemhg 04-09-2025 10:02 AM

It's stats like these that I find so interesting.

https://i.redd.it/vt2y6itdapte1.png

Something has to be said about how the younger demographic have skewed Conservative, I think it shows a masterclass of how the right has been able to capture that demographic online, absolutely.

My head would've spun 15 years ago if you told me old folks would be voting more Liberal than young people. Cons have always been the party of the boomers, now it's for the young men.

The online messaging has truly worked, my nephews and people their age are more red-pilled than anyone else out there nowadays.

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 10:03 AM

And this is exactly why folks, a liberal arts education, at least for a remaining segment of the population is still necessary to provide people with critical thinking skills regardless of "employment marketability".

Hondaracer 04-09-2025 10:03 AM

I don’t think the actual workers are ever so dumb it’s the union idiots who justify their existence by associating with a party so they can say they will protect the jobs they are representing, which is almost never the case.

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 10:05 AM

Well a union leadership is voted on by the union members and has just as much culpability as the voters of a nation electing it's leaders

Forgetting power tool pics -- For PeePee voters, I'm curious why you'd support a guy that won't let journalists accompany his campaign and take questions?

What is this guy afraid of? If he can't even handle questions from the media, how is this guy supposed to run this country, how is he ready for the world stage in handling the major issues we're seeing right now?

That part I'm truly not getting.

Global new jut dropped a big report on the friend of modi who are funding pp' campain.

https://globalnews.ca/news/11113678/...tive-election/

Quote:

wo months into his 2022 leadership campaign, Pierre Poilievre spoke at the home of Aditya Tawatia, a politically active Vancouver realtor.

“Delighted to host the next Prime Minister of Canada,” Tawatia wrote on X, adding his mother had “blessed” Poilievre’s campaign.

Tawatia donated $1,675 to Poilievre’s leadership bid and has since kicked in another $3,750 to the Conservative Party of Canada.

It wasn’t the first time Tawatia had backed an aspiring prime minister: He is the founder of a Canadian organization set up to elect Narendra Modi in India.

The summer before Modi’s 2014 election victory, Tawatia was among a group of supporters that gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mississauga, Ont.

At the daylong conference, they wore scarves with the lotus symbol of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party and launched the Overseas Friends of BJP Canada.
There is also a 32 page PDF being passed around.

Read the comments!

The woke version of picking fights:

1984's "two minute hate" has legitimately become real in modern Canadian society.

Nobody even knows who the mods are of /r/vancouver, but the top post for the last 2+ days has been nearly 500 comments of pure venom and hatred, where the post itself is left online specifically for the reason of people to hate on them and show everyone the values of Reddit Vancouver. So much seething hatred in the comments.

Regardless how you feel about the people involved standing peacefully holding signs, it would raise your eyebrows that completely anonymous moderators with such a large audience have so much power to shape public opinion through such strict control over what is allowed to be said, and who gets dunked on.

Just read the comments for yourself. It is pure hatred. Deliberately targeted at people who think different than the crowd of 9-5 NPCs.

The funniest part about wokies is that out of one side of their mouth, everything is about inclusion, tolerance, acceptance... as long as you're one of us. Because the moment you question the Government-Corporate-Liberal orthodoxy, you are enemy #1 and deserve to have your rights taken, locked up in a mental care facility, and purged from society.

And, of course, I'm not even allowed to post on there and defend peaceful people standing around with signs.

The smore mcslurry SLAPS. It reminds me of growing up on food banks with instant hot chocolate mix with the dried marshmallow bits. DELICIOUS.

Traum 04-09-2025 11:19 AM

Mike, you're forgetting that a sizable number of Cons supporters (or just right wing supporters in general) generally have a fairly negative bias towards mainstream media. For reasons that I cannot understand, they have a tendency to think mainstream media are all heavily left leaning that they do not report the truth. Think vaccine and climate change here. Add a dose of gender equality, racial profiling, and stuff, and many Cons / right wing supporters will think it is perfectly fine for the Cons to not have a media entourage accompanying PeePee since these mainstream media is biased against them anyway, and wouldn't be reporting on the Cons in good faith.

So PeePee might as well not have them around.

Your thoughts on this local news piece about anti-semitic comments on social media from Vancouver Councillor Sean Orr?

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/0...-antisemitism/

Online comments made by a Vancouver city councillor elect are gaining attention Wednesday, with some alleging antisemitism and others saying the allegations are being made in bad faith.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver released a public statement with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs Tuesday.

The group had said it’s “deeply disturbed” by a number of comments made on social media by city councillor-elect Sean Orr, and describes them as antisemitic.

Among other comments, the federation made special note of a 2021 post to social media Orr made, referring to Vancouver city planners as “being controlled by a secret cabal of Jews who have a bunker in the earth’s core.”

Orr has responded to the federation’s statement online, explaining that a layer of irony and context has been lost in isolating the post.

“I sarcastically quoted the comedian David Cross while condemning an antisemitic dogwhistle on Twitter. I was defending Karm Sumal against the claim he was a “globalist shill.” I have been outspoken over the years opposing all forms of racism including anti-semitism,” said Orr in a post to social media Tuesday.

Mayor Ken Sim held a media event Wednesday morning, gathering with some Jewish faith leaders from Metro Vancouver, calling on Orr to apologize, and calling the comments “unacceptable.”

“Such language is unacceptable from anyone, let alone someone who has been entrusted with public service and community leadership. As mayor, I will not allow a councillor to divide our city, and we call for full accountability and urge Councillor-elect Sean Orr to immediately address these multiple statements directly and transparently,” said Sim.

He’ll be gone, forced to resign by the powers that be obviously lol.. you could shit on anyone else and it would fly

Which will mean encumbant NDP riding will remain NDP.

Fucking east van and their NDP shit sacks wtf

westopher 04-09-2025 12:48 PM

lol I have lots of friends who are homies with Sean and I knew this stuff would bite him in the ass.
He's a joker, and he's left it all up there for things to be taken out of context. Combined with the current environment of "don't bomb kids" being antisemitism, I don't see it going well. He's literally one of the last people that would ever be classified as racist or xenophobic, but the internet doesn't care. Everyone is a victim these days and itching for the moment to cry.
Some people/groups totally are victims and have every right to be pissed about a lot of stuff, but this isn't one of them.
Fuck Ken sim. Fucking little bitch latching on to something that's clearly bullshit to look like he's got the high road.

Hondaracer 04-09-2025 12:51 PM

Ken Sim knows what’s good for him.

There aren’t mosques lining shaughnessy corridors.

Does not sound serious at all...come on media. Come on Ken. Come on Honda, I know you thought he was serious but it sounds as sarcastic as a teenager. lolol

But on the other hand when did we start electing sarcastic reddit edge lords into office and can I please get off this fucking ride already??

Hondaracer 04-09-2025 12:56 PM

I’m not serious I know it’s nothing but he’s gonna get slammed given the groups he’s talking about. I think it’s extremely likely he will be forced to resign.

I don't believe for a second anyone in here could get voted into office and not be called a "sarcastic edgelord" by someone if they saw a single RS thread.

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 01:12 PM

Yeah but it's a closed forum and we're smart enough not to use our real names should we ever choose to run for office :drunk:
