Laptop that will output 4K

I'm looking for a new laptop that will output 4k to my TV

the laptop itself doesn't need to be anything special, just regular use but want the output and would be nice to have optical audio output as my receiver can't do 4K so i have to do video directly to the TV with a separate audio output

Anything with a Intel UHD 620 or higher should do 4k. Older Intel graphics will probably be able to do 4k as well but the 620 and 630 can do 4k h265 without breaking a sweat if you plan to watch 4k content. A lot of it is in h265.

Optical out on a laptop, I've never seen that before. Seen some Dells that have it on the dock but not the laptop itself. Just get a USB to spdif adapter.

no one physically tethers a laptop to a TV anymore
if you're using it pretty casual look up mirroring or 'throw'
if it's gonna be pretty dedicated, buy a NUC, setup box like the nvidia shield, or build a HTPC

I actually use an old corp laptop that just runs Kodi. I like it a lot better than my old HTPC.

This.

most laptops with windows 10 will have the mirroring option as long as your tv supports it. If not microsoft sells adapters to use this way. works well without having any cables attached to your computer.

what re the limitations of running wireless though? if you're trying to chuck 4k@60 onto something I feel like you're going to want a physical connection for it to work smoothly.

Personally, I don't wireless anything on my home theater. My laptop is hardwired with the lid closed and tucked away. I have an old remote receiver from my Windows Media Center days that I have plugged in and I run everything from my Harmony.

This will take 4K from HDMI and extract the audio and output via optical.
