For what its worth: some comments on Reddit have suggested the this couple had enemies in Canada who might have contacted people in Vietnam to carry out the attack. Someone else also claims the victim's brother is one of the main suspects.
Tom is in serious condition and they cannot provide much assistance for him due to him being a permanent resident in Canada and not a Canadian Citizen
really messed up if true...you look at the case on the 2 officers in Cuba, the ongoing detentions in China, etc...Ottawa sure likes to sit around when our own gets into awful predicaments abroad...yet we're relatively swift to accept refugees..where's the balance?
There's got to be more to this story. A gang of people won't throw acid on his face and cut up his legs for nothing.
2x i don't get it either...having attackers with no personal gain like a purse or wallet..same with the knife thing, why stab the legs only?.

kinda weird to do that when guns are so cheap on homeland.

Nguyen told CTV Vancouver via video chat from a hospital room in Bangkok. "I had my purse on me but he didn't come get me. He just went straight for my boyfriend."
He is not a citizen of Canada, therefore he is a citizen of ANOTHER country. Which is why the government of Canada cannot provide him assistance.
How is that so hard to understand?
yeah because Ottawa totally didn't let two officers rot in Cuba for 9 months and is still letting China deal with an ex-diplomat without any charges for "endangering security" and with lawyers/family denied
our gov't's favourite line: we will continue to monitor the situation
it's like any time it happens in communist shit holes, our foreign ministry just puts up its hand 'waste of effort, we shouldn't even try'
also, yes hes technically not a citizen of Canada, but:
