i loveeeee chinese fruit cake

my go-to for birthday cakes and shit.

I usually hit up Annas cake house or Kams on Main st.

If i remember right, you can order in advance and pay extra to add durian into ur chinese fruit cake at kams :nyan:

Never heard of Durian, google brought me to youtube. Probably not going there but enjoy your cake.

Slifer 03-08-2019 04:13 PM

^Durian is one of the most delicious fruit on earth. Don't know why some people hate it and it definitely does not taste like garbage. Fucking noobs..

Hondaracer 03-08-2019 04:35 PM

Anna’s is usually where my wife’s family always gets their cakes

I find these Chinese fruit cakes kinda hit and miss but when you get a good one they are killlssss

From a white mans perspective, Chinese fruit sponge cakes are awful. Absolutely bland and tasteless with almost no redeeming qualities. Although before you even say it, your typical white pwrson huge ass party cake that you’d order from Costco or Safeway is disgustingly sweet and packed with sugar.

Give me that Dairy Queen ice cream cake

Badhobz 03-08-2019 05:44 PM

True. My best bud, who's Italian, says the same thing. I guess you guys love the heavier flavors (he keeps asking for salt when he comes over to eat my food).

punkwax 03-08-2019 05:45 PM

Pie > cake.

Hondaracer 03-08-2019 06:03 PM

Costco uses actual icing at least where as Safeway, saveon etc use that gross sugar imitation icing

They are solid. I've been getting my birthday cake from them, year after year, for the last 25+ years. My family didn't have much money back then, so it was the only day of the year where my parents would splurge and buy from a bakery outside of Chinatown. Now every time I bite into their mango and strawberry mousse cake, it tastes like happiness. :)

Off-topic, but if anyone here knows how to make Anna's sponge cake, I would LOVE to have the recipe. I've tried numerous recipes on the internet and nothing seems to come close! TIA

I'm not a big fan of Chinese sponge cakes and I hate durian, it smells like bad
it's like going to a strip club but the front door has a bunch of dog shit, it may taste like heaven but it smell terrible

guess I'm not as Chinese as I thought I was lol

Badhobz 03-14-2019 05:37 PM

I made my own pho today. God damn it's sooooo good but the price ended up being almost the same as buying a bowl from Thai son. The beef brisket was like 16 dollars, the sirloin was another 13 bucks and not to mention all the beef bones, condiments and noodles. Plus the 8+ hours of low simmering probably cost a fortune in electricity.

Should update thread title to "Badhobz' Cooking Adventurez"

Badhobz 03-14-2019 06:04 PM

Lawl, well feel free to post your own cooking too. I love to be inspired by other people's yum yums. Considering how much skill and effort it takes to work on your own cars, this cooking shit ain't nothing.

The main issue is the cheap shitty ingredients they usually use. I bet the one in OP tastes delicious, because it's a real cake instead of a shitty sponge cake, and real cream instead of whipped margarine.

I got sick of DQ ice cream cakes after my 300th time when I was 12. But I had one in Thailand after like 20 years and it was fucking delicious Kreygasm

320icar 03-14-2019 06:11 PM

^^ gotta start making your own ramen. I have my chashu pork and marinated egg down to a god damned science, but the broth is harder. Last time I made it I fucked up and used some of the green of the leek and it stained my broth. Next time will be even better hopefully. The broth is delicious but just not as creamy as proper rich pork tonkotsu. I know it has a good fat/gelatin content as the second it starts to cool down to room temp it gets thick as hell. Blizzard treatment easily

Dude that looks fucking epic. What's your recipe ??

BIC_BAWS 03-14-2019 07:12 PM

My Baaad adventure

Fettuccine alfredo w/ chicken and garlic bread. The gf got mad when I wanted to buy alfredo sauce and garlic spread, since that isn't cooking. "That's just putting ingredients together"

This took way too long to cook, like 4.5 hours, and cost as much as Italian Tomato. ~ $90 of ingredients, everything was made from scratch.

This is the time to enjoy cooking though. I won’t say I’m very good at it, but I enjoy cooking. Don’t care how much I spend on groceries (versus the dining out comparison). I like the meals that take a few hours of prep and I can do it at home on a day off by myself. Like making beef pies and stuff.

My wife and I have been trying for a while. Figured to keep cooking for enjoyment now while I can before it turns into the chore of just feeding hungry mouths
