^ thanks to south park, that song is now a meme. Not quite as popular as Rick Astley, but not far off.

Country isn't my bag, but it's popular for a reason. The line between rock and country is really skewed, especially when you consider that guys like Chad Kroeger are producing music.

That said, I was hanging out with this dude a couple weeks ago, and he was cool as shit.

Not country. It's just generic stereotypical pseudo-country lyrics layered with generic bedroom producer trap beat...

A country / rap fusion needs have heart soul and gravy biscuits

I said country / rap fusion which is what it is when you break it down into its elements. It's still a type of country.

Like Dub Techno & Hard Acid House are both still Techno despite being very different sounding.

I stumbled upon her randomly last fall. I think she's still a fairly new artist. Her songs definitely remind me of early Taylor Swift from her first album.

It's more country than a lot of the frosted tips/soul patch pop country crap that has come out over the last 25 years.

What was the reason for Billboard pulling the song?

Also fuck this thread for reminding me that Uncle Kracker exists.

I don't know if I would go so far as to accuse Billboard of racism or anything. I don't agree with it, I just think that the country genre is protective of its style and overreacted. Unlike most other genres of popular music, country has long remained separate, seemingly with its own identity and way of life. In many ways that way of life is shrinking as people leave for cities. It's somewhat like the French in Canada who wish to remain distinct and protect their culture, resisting the inevitable.

I should point out that I generally dislike country music other than the nostalgia for the music my mom forced me to listen to growing up. On top of that I also like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, etc.

To troll people who insist on playing country music at parties, I will tell them they can go right ahead as long as they agree to play David Allen Coe's Underground Album.

Definitely think it's a country song. Billboard didn't have a problem classifying it as such until it started charting.

People are angry about it, because they feel that Billboard is essentially showing a bias to not allowing certain people from having success within the country genre. I would definitely say this is more of a country song than Rap/Trap.

The problem is, when artists such as Post Malone can come out stating that he's not a rapper, yet put out songs that allow him to chart and be classified as "Rap/Urban" music.

It seems as though "Rap/Urban" music affords much more inclusivity for white artists to come into the genre with music that isn't necessarily that, and to chart, and be classified as such.

Taylor Swift is a pop artist, yet she regularly puts out song that are rated on the country charts. Justin Bieber is another example when it comes to Rap/R&B, when he's clearly a pop artist.

It just shows a bias that we've come used to in music, it sounds like Billboard is re-evaluating their decision based on the blowback.

It is what it is, we know there's different rules to the game. At the end of the day, it's the old guard clinging to keeping their music a certain way, for a certain group of people. The truth is, urban music is the most popular genre in music right now, and continues to go in that direction.

These old music industry heads will need to adapt and change, or get left in the dust.
