Craigslist will be charging to list cars starting April 15

This could be a good thing or a bad thing. CL has always been my go to location to lol for cars because of the selection and ease of navigation, it’ll suck if less people list. But if it stops dealers from spamming the crap out of CL and cluttering up the listings that could be OK.

Late April fools?

dorian 04-12-2019 11:51 AM

only in the Vancouver section. Areas around Metro Vancouver are still free for dealers.

asma123 04-12-2019 12:18 PM

Personally I think this is a bad thing. Deters people from posting shit. Same thing happened with jobs and gigs.

The Producer 04-12-2019 12:49 PM

end of an era. it's less about the money and more about the extra step involved

wonder if this will drive private car sales to kijiji

GabAlmighty 04-12-2019 12:56 PM

Once you leave the lower mainland most everything is kijiji anyways.

Hakkaboy 04-12-2019 01:14 PM

Good, should be a lot less fake ads then

whitev70r 04-12-2019 02:00 PM

Kijiji just launced a revamped auto section.

If CL charges regular folks, it will signal the end of auto posting. Good that they charge dealers. I think right now is a perfect blend. Yes, dealers spam but tick off the bundle duplicate option solves that problem.

TouringTeg 04-12-2019 02:05 PM

Autotrader, kijiji and usedvictoria still free. There is also usedvancouver but nobody uses it.

snowfarmer 04-12-2019 02:29 PM

I've used Kijiji Auto and it misses tons of results that would show up if you searched regular Kijiji. The only issue is that the Kijiji UX is so bad. I like the clean CL look.

sold my last car on fb marketplace.

good thing about fb market place is that you get moms and wives browsing and asking initial question. then the husbands call you. never had that on craigslist.

twitchyzero 04-12-2019 09:16 PM

end of cl goodbuys discussion = end of rs

Correction, years. Maybe Kijiji blows up in B.C. like it is across the rest of Canada for selling vehicles. Kijiji and AutoTrader are both free.

We still have Kijji!

Be like the east coast lol

teggy604 04-13-2019 09:12 AM

meh. Owners will start to post on autotrader or kijji and less ppl to post on craigslist which means ppl will start to look for cars on kijji and autotrader.

snowfarmer 04-13-2019 09:30 AM

The thread will just become the "Craigslist/Kijiji/Autotrader/CarGurus/Bring-a-Trailer/FB Marketplace good buys" thread.

Links to cars listed on those other sites are posted up in the thread already. People still need to sell their cars, they're gonna get listed somewhere.

The reason CL is so fucking good is the site runs smooth, is clean and well designed and not fuckered by endless ads and shit. I can’t stand using kijiji or autotrader or anything else

Dbone 04-13-2019 05:59 PM

I really like the GUI of ca.cargurus.com but the price analysis is totally fucked up.

At least you can do a nation wide search though.

I do like the wider search area of Kijiji and Autotrader, being from Kelowna if I'm searching for vehicles in the GVRD I'm willing to drive the same distance in any direction to get the right vehicle so being able to run one search and be done is nice. Kijiji has less selection and Autotrader tends to have higher priced stuff. I find that CL seems to have a lot less mis-categorized stuff and bogus ads get taken down quicker than other platforms too.

FB marketplace is just a steaming pile of garbage.

You can do one search province wide on CraigsList too. Just pick all the cities you want it to search in.

Corrected it for you.

^ it has its pros and cons, I found removing everything except people I actually know worked wonders.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot, when I select nearby areas it only lets me get so far, I haven't found anything that lets me pick all the BC options.

vexor 04-16-2019 08:11 AM

So April 15th came and went and as far as I can tell, it's still free to post cars for private owners.

Seems like it's only in the US where they have the $5 fee.
