for what it's worth, my kids are being taken care by my parents when they are not in school. my parents speak Cantonese with them full time. my wife and I try and mostly speak Cantonese with them as much as possible. they are 6 and 4 years old. all they do is speak English.

By all means have them learn Cantonese/Mandarin/French/Spanish/Klingon/Dothraki/Whatever. Just make sure when they grow up they learn proper English grammar and word usage (wander/wonder , whether/weather, would have not would of, accept/except, principle/principal, irregardless is not a word). If I still come across adults that do this the insta-snap generation isn't going to give a fuck. Don't let your kids grow up like that - I find that kids who grow up with parents who are ESL have this issue. Give them books and other respected publications and get them to read, read, read.

Most people I grew up with who grew up in a home where their parents spoke little to no English ended up growing up to speak/write very fobby English. Some who went to full time English pre-school, elementary, and then high school actually ended up in highschool ESL (which, imo was fucking retarded and a waste of resources especially knowing the people involved)
But yea..knowing half ass mandarin but not knowing the difference between their, there, and they’re is kindaaaaaa ehhhh...

As for grammar, yes, I'm a stickler. It's hard to respect someone who can't spell properly or use proper tense and punctuation. And let's face it, the last thing any self respecting Asian parent wants, is people thinking they raised a retard cause they can't spell properly.
