2019 Night Market(s)

Can't believe it's that time already.........

Starts this Friday.

For me, summers don't start until McD's has their Summer Drink Days, hee hee........

Fucking kill me. I live near river rock....... my wife and I learned to loathe it due to shit traffic control

keifun 05-09-2019 06:55 PM

Meh. I will pass
How much is admission this year?
It keeps keeps going up while its pretty much the same stores year after year.

Mancini 05-09-2019 08:37 PM

Ali in person.

Obsideon 05-09-2019 08:59 PM

Hard pass. Haven't been in years.
So much simpler back in the day to what a real night market should be. Wander down the street and grab a few bites while browsing random knock offs.

Now they've turned it into a shitty amusement park. It's pay for parking, pay for admission, pay for mediocre over-priced food.

MG1 05-09-2019 10:02 PM

I haven’t gone to one in maybe two years. Dropped off my kids last year while I went to the casino, lol. Farmers Markets are more my thing now.

HonestTea 05-09-2019 11:21 PM

No thanks. Everything is overpriced and now you have to pay to get in..

Hondaracer 05-09-2019 11:24 PM

What smells worse, the stalls or the people

MG1 05-10-2019 05:58 AM

I'm looking forward to Car Free Days. They're so much gooder.

The one on Main Street, Hats Off Day (Burnaby), Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Festival (New Westminster), The Drive, etc.

Then there's the multicultural festivals, like Powell Street Festival, Greek Days, Italian Days, etc.

Lots of way better things to spend your time...............

Oh, then there's the PNE. On free days, of course. That place never gets old. Just me.

Condolences. I also live in Richmond and forget sometimes and go that way to get to Marpole etc... immediate facepalm

Badhobz 05-10-2019 08:09 AM

last year sucked. the food is outrageously overpriced for pretty mediocre stuff.

probably pass this year unless the wife wants to scooter there for ha ha's

it used to be all about the cheap ass CD-R's/DVD-R's and rip off movies/music. Now its just a bunch of cellphone shit and fake ass samurai swords to trick the occasional guy from Abbotsford.

dachinesedude 05-10-2019 09:29 AM

yea the prices these days are a bit of a turn off, its like $8 for 3 skewers, no thanks

lilaznviper 05-10-2019 11:09 AM

Price for admission is $4.75 this year

LightKeeper 05-10-2019 11:38 AM

Yeah, it has been shit ever since they started charging people to go in.

It is because they started putting these lame carnival games in night market by this company (who won an award for this business move).

It used to be about street food and store, but now it's just a tourist gimmick.

Mr.HappySilp 05-10-2019 11:55 AM

^^ most likely will take gf there to see. But I agree the food is overpriced. On a side note those light bulb cups they use, I purchase one online as well now I can have on my drinks in a light bulb cuphttps://sc01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB17C1FN...pg_350x350.jpg

Mr.Money 05-10-2019 06:38 PM

shit food you can make better at home i don't buy..

wouldn't waste my time & money either.

Hehe 05-10-2019 09:51 PM

Does anyone still go?

I mean, I no longer go and so do my friends in the same age group.

But do younger people still go this shit? I mean, before you even spend a dime inside of the night market, you'd be looking at around 20-30bucks easily if solo or roughly 10/head if you manage to fill the car with F&F to share the costs. (roughly $50 per car).

Not sure how the math works out for others, but I'd rather spend another 50-80 and have a decent meal in a Chinese restaurant rather than whatever crappy stuff one'd find in there.

Hondaracer 05-10-2019 09:55 PM

Fobs

danned 05-10-2019 10:35 PM

rich kids do go there

yray 05-10-2019 11:38 PM

4.75 lmao

might as well throw 5 on red at riverrock

StylinRed 05-11-2019 03:23 AM

Went last year, several times, I thought it was cool
Parking was free I thought?
My ex and I enjoyed it, brought my cousins too

Only thing is all the people, omg it's packed

I agree. I haven't been since they start charging more than 1 dollar. No one goes for the stores anyways now because you got amazon, Alibaba, Ebay, etc... So the only thing people go there for is the food and the atmosphere. However you have to pay $5 bucks admission, just to spend $50 bucks on expensive street food...

Euro7r 05-11-2019 09:39 AM

I haven't gone to night market in over 10 years. Nothing about there appeals to me. Admission fee is a turn off.

I go back Asia enough in a year to get my dose of Asian food eats lol.

Vansterdam 05-11-2019 04:14 PM

love getting baked and going for munchies

thats about it lol

flagella 05-11-2019 05:16 PM

It's probably been at least a decade since I ventured into night market. Can't imagine how expensive it must have gotten now.
