I actually think 718 GT4 is not actually a significant step up from the 1st gen.

Cons
300lbs heavier
Gearing has not changed. Still way to high for city driving. #1 issue with 1st gen
Minimal increase in torque, especially with +300lbs
Styling, I wouldn't say it looks better than first gen, especially the rear diffuser

The one to get is the Spyder. It finally has the same suspension as the coupe. However, rumours are that they will be launching a 718 GT4 RS with a PDK.....

For what it is worth, the 718 GTS 4.0 configurator is available online now, and the MSRP is actually a bit lower than I had expected:

https://www.porsche.com/canada/en/mo...ts-4-0-models/

Cayman GTS 4.0 - $94500
Boxster GTS 4.0 - $96900

The engine in this GTS 4.0 is of course a detuned version of the 718 Cayman GT4 / Sypder. Makes for an interesting option within the 718 hierachy, IMO.

my only boxster/cayman experience was in a 981 gts pdk on track

is the new gts still using cayman/boxster S suspension?

The 718 is supposed to have received some suspension tuning to address the certain shortcomings of the 981.

There was already a 2.5L turbo 718 GTS, and it comes with the PASM suspension package that is optional in the base and S car. I believe the latest GTS 4.0 also has the same thing (ie. PASM).
