Its 2.6 seconds apparently. Porsche always under estimates their figures.

Too much money and what happens when the batteries have to be replaced, can't imagine the cost involved.

Pretty sure they'll come out with a "normal" version with a more reasonably MSRP.

Interview with lead designer mentioned a RWD version. Thats probably the one you're thinking about.

The full line-up might look like

Taycan (RWD)

200k can get you into a lot of other cars without the headache if you're traveling around Canada trying to find a charge station.


Yes there's more every year but its bare minimal right now.

Honestly it's not that "expensive". Yes, $170k+ is a lot of money and can you a lot other options, depending on your preference and taste. But relatively speaking, it's not that far off from Panamera Turbo models which also start at $174k+.

Maybe the future RWD will start under $100k, and 4S for under $120k. Then by then, it would be more in line with Model S and Karma pricing.

IMO, as a 4-door sedan, Porsche made a very bad decision on designing to be "track oriented".

Jalopnik just had a piece saying that the reason Taycan can't out-range Tesla S, a car that's now 6+ years old is that they made the decision for it to be more trackable.

IMHO, this is the problem that conventional car manufacturers have... they think EV is a niche. Hence, every decision they make is about being niche. You can clearly see VAG's niche vision when it decided to "promote" its e-trons at a fucking Tesla Supercharger!!! These are people who already have (arguably) the best EV out there and it's going to be a tough sell no matter how you shape it.

And Porsche being Porsche... it has to be fast... blah blah blah....

Instead, Tesla is focusing on convincing the general market... current ICE owners to switch to EV. They are focusing on a much larger potential market... With the pricing on Model 3, anyone who can afford a BMW can afford a good EV.

If Porsche really wanted to introduce a track-oriented EV, it should have designed a 911 from the ground up with an electric powertrain build it so well that even its 911 clienteles would forgo an ICE based 911 and get the EV equivalent.

What did they do with the first Porsche EV instead? They build a freaking 4-door sedan that probably had less effort/innovation than the Lohner-Porsche hybrid Ferdinand Porsche built back in early 1900.

the overwhelming deposits they got clearly means they won over a substantial chunk of the Model S demo

the model S as you mentioned is dinosaur now..Taycan was never meant to be affordable nor some taut sports car...it's the next-gen Panarmera

if you want the Civic/Corolla of EV and take a hit on build quality or longevity...get a model 3 or Leaf

i'm waiting for something from Toyobaruzda

And this "dinosaur" is the benchmark Taycan Turbo or not can't quite figure out how to beat. Taycan is slower 0-60, less range, potentially less 0-100-0 (Porsche only did a 0-90-0 that clocked at 10.17.... 2017 Model S P100D did 0-100-0 at 10.2), less efficient, and more expensive.

Now that Elon Musk has sent a Model S to Nurburgring, I'm quite sure whatever time Taycan has set will probably fell behind a Tesla before the first Taycan is even delivered.

This is the problem I'm talking about... with 6B invested into and among one of the best car manufacturers in the world, they couldn't innovate beyond a freaking startup that 10yrs ago was a nobody. They have to get out of their niche mentality or else they will never be able to beat Tesla. Tesla is always thinking how they can produce an EV that's better than the best ICE counterparts... while Porsche just wants to somehow one-up Tesla. (the only argument so far is that it's able to repeatitively go 0-60?!?)

According to the video that Porsche put out their car did the 0-90-0 in 10.70 seconds. The description of the video states 10.17 but the actual video says 10.70.

this is 2008 all over again when the GT-R spanked the 911...i'd still pick the P-car...if everything is bench racing/spec sheet then GM products trumps all

Because they have been touting it as the Tesla Killer?

Still... my beef with Taycan is not that it can't beat a Tesla... as their approach to market might be different. However, I feel sad that a brand with such a pedigree and reputation, not to mention with all the technical know-how behind VAG, and yet all they could bring to the EV market is something that I feel it's a mediocre attempt at best.

And the price of Taycan is insane... I just priced everything out. A fully equipped Taycan Turbo costs more than a fully equipped Tesla Model S or X P100D (take your pick, I even added the Full Self Driving option) AND a Model 3 Performance... and still have a bit of money left.
