Best interior comfort / sound isolation for <35k?

My old man is retiring next year and I'm hoping to get him a car as a thank you gift.

I'm budgeting myself 35k for either a new or CPO vehicle in order to give him and I a peace of mind when it comes to maintenance issues.

The biggest thing I am looking for is something that offers good interior comfort and sound isolation as he drive on the highway quite often.

Would the obvious choice be something like a VW passat?

My VW Jetta Execline is nice car: quiet, comfortable, great mileage, and all the creature comforts like heated steering wheel, air conditioned seats. Once you have cold air on the jewels, you'll never go back. You should be able to get one all-in for $35k.

If you want peace of mind when it comes to comfort, maintenance, and reliability, wouldn't that automatically point to a Japanese appliance car like the Camcord?

a used lexus es. can't go wrong :toot:

sonick 08-12-2019 11:36 AM

Yah my mind jumped straight to a pre-owned Lexus.

fliptuner 08-12-2019 12:01 PM

+1 for cpo Lexus

Just stay away from 250's

Spectre_Cdn 08-12-2019 12:27 PM

CPO or just preowned es300h for hush hush and fuel economy.

If you can't get an ES, take a look at Avalon. I know old man car but it's just as quiet and because no one wants them they're cheap.

I bought my parents an Ioniq hybrid last year... kinda regret it, it's 18 months old and has less than 5000kms on it... LOL

But to answer your question...

For an extra 5K, you can get this 2016 XC90 T6 Momentum with 59xxx kms. It's got the twin charged and the THOR lights. Your papa gonna roll in style!

How about a Mazda 6 with the turbo? Lots of selection for a lightly used 2018 right now and considering how slowly they sell maybe even a new 2019 would be gettable for under $35k. Mazda spent a lot of money on making their cars quieter and the turbo 6 is known more for being a cruiser than for being a sports sedan. Also way better looking than any Lexus.

i will only accept Aston Martin :drunk:

bcrdukes 08-13-2019 07:10 AM

Avalon :sweetjesus:

vitaminG 08-13-2019 09:02 AM

Could get a brand new Camry for that price.

bcedhk 08-13-2019 09:10 AM

Never really considered the Avalon. Going to take a look at it and compare it with a new Camry.

Thanks for the recommendations! Going to be a busy weekend of test driving!

The IS250 engine has only direct injection, not DI + PI like the 350's. Therefore it will get carbon build-up and need walnut blasting, just like the Audi/VW/BMW DI injections.

Also, they're dog slow and fuel-inefficient.

Keep in mind there will be some similarities, but up until you sit in the Avalon and take it for a drive, you'll notice a significant difference. Hard to say for sure whether the new Camry will be better than the Avalon (given market availability and your price range) but for quiet and comfort, Avalon takes the cake.

slightly used lexus ES gets my vote, avalon is nice but it's too close in price to a lexus that you may as well go lexus.
