2020 Land Rover Defender

prob no phev/diesel for N. America

made in Slovakia

i'll forgive the Honda Element front/Kia Soul body for the interior

all that tech/sensors is gonna become some serious paperweight though

Mr.Money 09-12-2019 02:14 AM

no way in hell is this off road monster like its elders.
its pretty much for Land Rover fans only,i question the long term durability of these with trying to pack so much technology inside with everything going on.

Dbone 09-12-2019 06:45 AM

I don't understand why aren't they bringing the diesel version to NA. Lack of perceived demand or different emissions standards or is our diesel just too poor?

I kind of like it, but the price of the options is eye watering.

The little box on the side is over $1k, and the 110 sticker is over $100.

I also hate how any paint but the whitish costs $900.

Z3guy 09-12-2019 07:13 AM

This was made to steal some G wagon high margin proift sales from MB.......

twitchyzero 09-12-2019 10:15 AM

the 90 looks a like Jimny
not a bad thing if it wasn't like $60k+

SkunkWorks 09-12-2019 10:35 AM

Spec'd one out and it was 110k. Whoops.

Why these soccer mom movers are popular is beyond me, but first look immediately brought this to mind...

I gotta disagree with that guy. Sure maybe modern conveniences are a must have, but don’t make it look like an evoque that got some square edges. The reason whys Jeeps and G wagons are still cool to this day is because of that old character. Not a basic ass modern house like he describes. This will just blend in with the others. Sad.

Best thing about this car is this:

twitchyzero 09-12-2019 05:37 PM

i agree there are so many other models they can go modern on the design...if they're to leave one icon alone it should've been this

maybe the new Bronco will obliterate all for its price-point

danned 09-12-2019 09:34 PM

can i defend crappy drivers with this defender?

tofu1413 09-12-2019 10:33 PM

no diesel, no game.

they pulled the diesel for the 2020 Velar.

StylinRed 09-13-2019 12:46 AM

They shoulda just kept the old design, give it their new signature headlamps if they wanted to give the design a refresh

SFU_wmc 09-13-2019 10:22 AM

Guessing the 90 will not be coming to Canada / NA either?

tru_blue 09-13-2019 12:39 PM

Here comes the exporters lining up to place orders just like the G-Wagon !!!!!

twitchyzero 09-13-2019 03:13 PM

no JLR dealers in china?

unit 09-13-2019 03:22 PM

pretty ugly.. i think the g wagon at least has the utilitarian look down, this one just looks domestic.

the price of the vehicles there (china) are double to triple the price here so people buy them up here and export them to china for resale

this is the issue with the local G-Wagon inventory I heard

just crawled under the 2020 Land Rover Defender—the unibody, independent suspension-equipped successor to a legendary body-on-frame, solid-axle off-road brute. What I saw didn’t appear to be an SUV built on a special off-road platform, but rather a machine quite similar to other vehicles in the Land Rover lineup.

This isn’t a bad thing, nor is it particularly surprising—Land Rover has the tooling and supply chain to build aluminum unibody vehicles with independent suspensions, so it makes sense for the company to use that capability to save on cost. Still, the die-hard Land Rover Defender fans who were hoping for a totally unique off-road workhorse built on a special off-road platform like the legendary Defender of yore might be a bit disappointed.

every day another reason to seriously praise Jeep for continuing to build the Wrangler. And todays JL Wrangler is MORE capable offroad than any previous generation, and sales continue to increase. Still solid axles front and rear, E-lockers front and rear. Electronic sway bar disconnect, 4:1 4Low Transfercase and real 4x4, real usable skidplates and recovery points and roll cage, not just for show. That is absolutely remarkable in todays era. And still modification friendly and very likely the healthiest aftermarket of any vehicle on the road.

FJ Cruiser? Huge fail
LR Defender? Huge fail
Bronco? Will not be as expected
Tacoma? Getting crushed by Colorado's of all things.

twitchyzero 09-19-2019 07:17 PM

pretty much how i feel about modern corvette and miata in the sports car realm on the new market

everything else belows $50k seems like a cop-out compared to what we used to have

i mean i sort of understand...it's a massive investment for such little return, the most vocal ones about BoF or save teh emmanuels aren't likely the ones buying new anyways

Are they brining over the Suzuki Jimny? While the Jeep will have its place, I think the Jimny might give some ppl another option. 2 door, no tech, solid axles, simple design, 4Lo transfer case, good on gas. Actually the more I look at it, the more it resembles the old defender unlike this new defender.

tofu1413 09-21-2019 09:37 AM

Suzuki North America is dead.

such a shame.

that Jimny would've probably save the brand. have them priced 30k or so, offer low finance rates. people will jump into them no time.

plain jane with 4x4 stuff. bluetooth and ac. thats all the people need in those little cars!

Badhobz 09-21-2019 11:25 AM

Why Jimny ?? Sounds retarded
