Mustang Mach E electric SUV

This looks really good. I just think they have to many models.

You can reserve one on ford.ca The reservation does not require any money.

Ford fucking up their longest-running, best-known model by turning it into an also-ran eSUV.

Joke

The naming is weird but the car itself sounds impressive. Most automakers have been avoiding the mid-market because they want to build in small volumes as electric cars are still not profitable but Ford must be convinced now that it's possible to make a profit if they're going in compact/mid sized SUVs.

If this car was available a few months ago I may not have bought my RDX. A compact/mid sized electric SUV with solid range and practicality for about $60K was/is doable for me.

I'm really looking forward to electric cars becoming mainstream and affordable - every time I'm in stop and go rush hour traffic I feel guilty about the environmental impact I'm having with my gas guzzler.

I totally get the use of the Mustang name, but man oh man that would have been a tough decision lol.

It should be pretty successful though, especially at that price point.

Ford hasn't being proven to be a reliable full electric suv just yet,do you want to pay all that money and find out for us?

hopefully they did do long term testing in Canadian weather, and the sensors aren't gonna shut down the entire suv....that's a huge problem with Telsa, since it has to do with auto drive its too high of a safety risk to even more if the sensor is busted and won't even go telling you tow it for repairs.

My friend has been driving an electric Focus for a few years. They seem to love it. The problem is that the dealers didn't want to sell it to them. They walked into a dealer and asked to buy one and were promptly shown the door. It's only because of some family connections that they actually managed to get one.

Their PHEV and focus electric models have been such an embarrassment that I wouldn’t trust them at all with my money without a proven track record

Decent looking car but as a Mustang, this is worse than when the Charger showed up with 4 doors. I thought they were going to show an electric version of the Mustang, not a SUV with Mustang styling cues.

Reminds me of Mitsubishi stopped making the evo and then announced a new crossover with the evolution name. Slap in the face to loyal fanbase

I don't really understand why they are using the Mustang name. Is anyone that's looking for an electric car really not going to buy it if it was just called the Mach E?

Brand recognition. If you tell someone you bought a Mach E most people will not know what it is. Everyone knows what a mustang is and the Mustang has a huge fan base. I bet you all the Mustang fans are talking about it for good or bad.

Just got a call from the local Ford dealer. They are only allocated 10 and they will arrive in 2021. You think there will be a big demand when it comes out? It seems to tick a lot of boxes.

Edit: Have an appointment with dealer at 4:45 tomorrow.

It’s not brand recognition if it’s completely different from what everyone associates with the brand.

Mustang... do you recognize the brand? I’d say that’s brand recognition. The fact it has nothing to do with the initial means nothing. It’s bringing attention to their product, and abusing the mustang name to do so.

I'm sure Hennesey will figure out a way to rip out the electric drivetrain and put a Supercharged Coyote in it.

Aside from the awful name it actually looks pretty good. I don't care for the line that goes through the taillights but the figures, tech and design are impressive.

When I think of Mustang I think highschool kids first car or midlife crisis on a budget, neither of which I want to be associated with. I personally don't think it needed the Mustang name to sell, if it's a good car and priced well.

I don't mind the look of it, the rear could use some work though.

Another brand I recognize is... Ford... nobody is thinking SUV when they hear Mustang. I can just see this scenario playing out... "Oh cool, you bought a Mustang? Let's go for a ride..." Next scene... "WFT is this thing?"

This could've been an opportunity for Ford to start a new name from a clean slate. They could've also brought back a retro name like the Futura... or if they really wanted to dick around with Tesla, they could've called it the Model T... lol

As a big EV believer, I think Ford is getting EV wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think the Mach E is nice... but there's a fundamental flaw.

EVs aren't cars, at least not in a traditional sense. They relate closer to smartphones in our pocket than ICE cars.

And as long as they don't change that mentality, they are not going to get anywhere close to a Tesla competitor let alone a killer.

The traditional car manufacturers' mentality is this, we make a model for year x, once that's out, we leave that as is, and move on.

The new MachE is interesting in both range, design and price, but lacks a serious component: technology and future adaptability.

Tesla continues to work on their cars because they don't see their cars as a certain model year... but the model as a whole. Thus, while they work on pushing out new hardwares, their main focus is really the software. They continue to add functions, make improvements and address problems to their cars. A first year Model3 isn't much different than a current MY model3, and won't be much different than the next year one.

Think it as your smartphone... would you get a phone where the software support would cease after a year? I wouldn't... as a matter of fact, a certain percentage of iPhone users choose the iOS ecosystem specifically because Apple has long been supporting their older models well after.

None of the major car manufacturer is getting this shift... it's not just the powertrain option, but also how people perceive their cars to be.
