"Enough about what Alyx isn't, though. The game is set for release on Steam in March of 2020, just four short months from now, and will work with all PC-compatible VR headsets. Pre-orders are open now and the game costs $59.99, though owners of Valve's Index VR headset will get it for free"
Valve Index is the best VR headset on the market at the moment, you can get an Oculus Quest for about $300 or the Rift for about $450 and it will play this.
You'd need a GTX1080 or Radeon 5700 or RTX2060S level GPU or higher to run it at a comfortable FPS IMO.
There aren't too many people who were bigger Half Life fans than me. Even multiplayer mode
So I am pretty sad that I will probably never, ever be able to play this. However, I am waiting to see if it is special enough to even deserve the Half Life name.
I admit that I kind of hope it's going to be just another shitty "VR Experience" FPS zombie shooter, just so that I won't be missing out on anything special. The trailer seems to have many hints to that effect - gun controls, jump scares, gimmicky "put your hands here" segments. I doubt there's many people, if anyone at all, left at Valve who worked on HL2 to make it as special as it is.
The oculus quest is $549 plus $100 for the USB cable so you can tether it to PC. I think the minimum GPU you need is a GTX 1060. You can buy a Windows Mixed reality headset for $249 but they are not that great.
The best part about the Oculus Quest is you can use it as a stand alone VR system and has a bunch of great games and more coming.
