Is there snow on the mountains? Skiing and Boarding? Hi RS. Has anyone been skiiing or boarding this season? If so, are the local mountains worth going up? I'm wanting to go, but only if conditions are somewhat decent. Thanks |
Friends of ours on Saturday said Whistler has been garbage, not sure about the local mountains |

The more important question is is there snow on the cypress parking lots or did they plow the place bare? |

Every single mountain I've ever heard of has snow reports and most have webcams now. It's pretty easy to figure out what the conditions are like. |
Sun Peaks is my go to mountain. I'm done with the local mountains and whistler. The fact that I've been going to Sunpeaks on Long weekends and typically wait times are 5 mins for the chair line up at the bottom of the hill, is a winner for me. I mean the last few times I've been to whistler the mountain gets ski'd out by early afternoon on top of the crazy chair wait times. |
Totally agree. Big White is one of my favorites. Don't hate on Sasquatch mountain either. Yes it's small, yes the chairs are slow. But it's usually dead, and it's a relatively short and fun drive out there for a day trip. When it gets a powder dump, I've had wicked times over there with minimal people even over the holidays, and weekends. |
Yeah, not to mention when going to the interior mountains sometimes there are days when it doesn't snow, but your still hitting fresh powder because its not as populated. I understand Whistler also has a much better village atmosphere, but after a full day of shredding. I'm not really looking to party, i'm gonna be resting for the next day runs. |
the appeal of Vancouver is that ski slopes are within 30 min of reach (from water) i haven't seen that kinda of proximity aside from Lake Tahoe and not everyone wants to spend hundreds/thousand+ on the slopes all weekend long...cypress and baker will do for casuals like me but i agree to not bother with Whistler in the winter |
I'll let you know tomorrow. Heading to Whistler tomorrow with the kids. FML. |
There's snow up the mountains in Whistler. |
I gave up on local mountains. Whistler is just way way way too expensive for me. I am the type that ride for solid 5 hours, skipping lunch, and just a sore cheap skate. I need to make sure I get my money's worth. If I'm going to pay the same for 3 days stay, i'm going to invest it at big white / sunpeaks. The only catch is having to drive 4 hrs + getting a rock chip each time. |
Hey guys I went to Mt. Baker today and it was pretty darn good. The drive was 2hours (with nexus) and the ticket was $70 USD. We didn't wait longer than 5mins to get on the lifts, it was great! Overall, we loved the Mountain. Much better than Whistler. A friend also said Manning Park was really good, so that's next on the list! |
neve rbeen to manning park, gotta do some research YUP, Baker is epic, the only thing is i always get the urge to leave asap and get back to the Canadian border. I am always worried about getting injured in USA> |

Went cypress saturday. Conditions are good now on the local mountains. Cant beat the 30 minute drive from vancouver. We are truly blessed. Surprisingly not busy maybe cause they jacked their prices to $90. Come 30 minutes before opening to get a good parking spot. |

The conditions were clean and clear. The only thing is the road is WINDY, so if you get car sick, I can see people getting irritated. We were twisting and turning the entire way up. Otherwise, the road wasn't an issue for us. |

Oh, the other thing I noticed with Baker is that the views you get are more inside mountain views, versus our local mountains like cypress/grouse, you get city views, with Baker, you are skiing inside the mountain bowl, so you're surrounded by mountain 360deg. |
^ yup. there is literally no city / views / things to do, walk to party. It's purely a place to ski / board and get the fuck off the mountain. We rented a cabin 3 yrs ago and had a blast, we did leverage and took advantage of their local costco to stock up and it's one of the side benefits of cheap meats and dirt cheap booze. |
Seymour was really good this Monday considering the way the season started. The snowpack is what it would be early December for a normal season, here in the PNW. It's pretty shit, but, it's better than not going. I would have said just stay home about a week or so ago though. Busy and just abysmal. |

i've probably just gotten used to looking at the burrard inlet but the view of mt. shuksan beats the views at cypress/whistler https://usatunofficial.files.wordpre...g?w=1000&h=663 |
