Merry christmas RS!!

Merry Christmas RS! You guys seem almost like a second family so had to make a thread about the holidays. How did the day go for you guys??

Every family has their own traditions. The wife and I go to my parents in the morning (with my brother and his wife). Do a big British fry-up and do stockings and presents. We don’t do much for gift giving anymore, just enjoy everyone’s company.

Sneak home for a few hours to have a nap, the head out to the aunts for big family turkey dinner and drinks/board games. It’s such a nice time to kind of not worry about buying/receiving gifts.

People often forget that time is a currency. Just setting it aside and spending it with loved ones is always a great feeling. I did have one great gift though

What was everyone else’s favourite gift, moments, memories etc for the holidays??!?!

Spoiler!

Congrats!

Best part was seeing my kids' excitement that Santa dropped off gifts and had cookies and milk.

Your first? For me it has been life changing. Without even thinking you will start putting their well-being ahead of all else. What a fucking incredible basic parental behaviour? Time passes so damn fast - blink and they are at the next big step in human development. Take it all in, document what you can without missing out. If you do it right, eventually they will start exhibiting selfless, kind, polite behaviour without any prompting. Much like tonight (xmas day), when my son (5), decided he was going to give some of his candy to his half sister and mom. He is always thinking of others and it's hard not to be proud.

Merry Christmas!

Best gift ever? Dat N64 the Xmas after release.

My parents built it up to me like we couldn’t afford it and I had accepted that, then ended up opening a second yellow controller before the console, still hadn’t clued in as they said it was for when we rented the console, then opened up the console shortly after, best Xmas ever

Oh man that reminds me of maybe around ‘95. We had snes so my brother and I would always just ask for games. Growing up we didn’t have that much money but we never really went without. We could see my dad hiding this one medium size box for a while and we were excited. Finally opened it and it was Mega Man X!!!! .....big box for pc and we didn’t have a computer man the sting of disappointment was something I could still feel today.

Later we opened the last present and it was our first windows ‘95 computer, so my dad was just being a sneaky son of a bitch. Ah good times

Didn’t do much on Xmas Eve, just unpacking and stuff. We usually do Swedish Xmas at the SO’s dad’s place on Xmas eve, but he’s out of the country on vacation.

Christmas morning with SO’s mom, brothers, and nieces. The children are all grown up now with the youngest graduating this year, so none of the gift openings of years past. Just crazy to think that she was a newborn when my SO and I started dating.

Dinner at my parents, prime rib as usual, which is always fantastic. Ate too much, played pool with my brother.

Boxing Day dinner with friends, only 11 of us made it this year but still plenty. Potluck dinner with roast beef. Good times. I’m so lucky to have fallen in with such a great group of friends.

We are all getting old and kids don't like to cars anymore, and too many VIs being handed out like no tomorrow. Sooner or later, we'll all be like MG1, a man who has fathered many children.

2nd. My oldest is 23. I had him when I was 19 and raised him on my own, so it was a lot harder to appreciate the small things, when I was just trying to survive.

Now that I'm older, in a good relationship and more established, I can put more energy into her actual happiness. Also, having a girl is totally different.

Yup.......... I, to this day, sneak down to the fireplace and eat a bit of the cookies and drink the milk that my daughter had put out on Christmas Eve. Not all, just enough to look like the cookies were eaten and the milk was drank. Made sure to leave marks on the rim (bits of cookie) and moved it to a different spot. My daughter started making cookies from scratch when she was old enough to do so, because Santa enjoys her special hand made cookies. My sons don't give two flying fig bars about the Santa thing.

Anyway, this Christmas was special. My oldest son and daughter have places of their own now, but the daughter stayed over this Christmas. I saw cookies and milk on the mantle for the first time in a while. She even pulled out the old fake Xmas tree and decorated it. By mid morning, there were lots of presents under the tree.

Since my wife passed away (fourth Xmas without her), we all chipped in and made Xmas dinner. I pulled out the sous vide and made turkey breast roast. My youngest son made my wife's awesome stuffing and roasted veggies. Daughter did the baking. My number one son? He um.............. was there, lol.

Went to see the wife at the cemetery and then went to visit my mother-in-law, who's now in a care home.

My wish for this and all christmases to come is to have grandchildren. Couldn't get it right the first time, so a second chance? Working two jobs and all to make ends meet, meant no time for family. I would so spoil the grandchildren. Be there for them, 24/7.
