Does anyone drive a four seater car?

Hi everyone,

I'm in need of a new car and a friend has a 2012 A7 for sale and he said he'd give it to me for $20k. He's the second owner and drives really well.

I love the look of it and I love the sportback, but it's only four seater.

Does anyone drive a four seater? I'm wondering if it's too much of a hassle to own a four seater vehicle.

I don't have any kids right now, but in the next couple years we should be expecting if all things go well. i'm trying to justify buying his car because I really like it and i'm in need of a new car.

Are there any major cons you guys see to owning a four seater? I don't know why Audi didn't just put a regular bench back there? It doesn't make sense to have the middle seat empty. Otherwise I would say the A7 is the ideal car. I was looking at 7 series, but my buddy who's a mechanic said they have so many issues and the engines having timing belt problems + a host of other issues.

Thanks for your time!

called a bitch seat for a reason

it's good for drinks/tissue box/ski passthrough, hardly a concern esp if you're gonna load 2 car seats next to it

snowball 01-31-2020 03:42 PM

i cant believe such a big car only seats 4 lol.

If you don't regularly drive 5 people, I don't see how the A7 would be a bad choice.

bcrdukes 01-31-2020 06:31 PM

What car do you own and drive now? A Caterham 7?

whitev70r 01-31-2020 07:05 PM

What do you like about the A7?

If it is the look and sportback feature, then nothing else quite like it out there. Buy it and sell it in a couple of years when you have a 2nd child. A7 4 seater should be fine for 1 child.

If it is the engine, lots of options to get a 5 seater. Most notably Audi S4

I have more the. 2 people in my car 1% of the time. I have 5 people in my car 0.01%

It's fine, I've owned 2 seat sports car before.

if you have a baby car seat in a regular sedan or wagon, the middle seat is pretty much useless anyway. 4 seater is fine.

7 seater is what you need if you like or need to pick up others.

Unless you have a boat of a car, there isn't enough room to fit 2 adults in the back with a car seat in most vehicles. In a pinch they work, but not for long trips. If the middle section is a plastic cubby like a 90's Integra, consider it a blessing, as it is one less area for a kid to destroy spilling drinks or food. My back seats are covered with waterproof dog covers and my son still manages to get crap past them through the seatbelt openings.

Ultimately, you have to ask yourself how many times do you really use the middle seat as an actual seat.

I want a 5 door car, but not an SUV. My wife has a 2013 X3, so we have an SUV in the family already. The S4 is great, but it's not a 5 door. I was looking at the newer S5's, but they're more money than I want to pay right now. The A7 also has the flagship materials and features that I want.

Having a 5 door is so much more practical, which is why I want a 5 door.

That's true, even with car seats in there, no one can sit in the middle and how often do I drive five people anyway?

Thanks everyone, you guys have definitely help me realize that have only four seats isn't really that big of a deal. Plus, my wife has a SUV if we need the space.

I really love the idea of driving a flagship car, especially after driving a car that's 20 years old. Thanks everyone, I think i'm going to get it!

Technically I have a 5-seater, but good luck actually getting 3 adults in the back seat.

If the Mazda 5, especially the first gen in NA, ever offered something more like an awd, or some sort of Speed performance model with a manual, I would have been all over it. Not quite a car, not quite a minivan.

If you're not sure the A7 is right for you, then you could flip it for something more suitable.

I have a Mazda 5, it only can carry 4 adults.

2 in the front, 1 on each row, because the middle row has car seat, and the back row usually have something on it, if you have a car that can carry stuff, there must be junks here and there. Of course, with the limited third row seat, the legs have to be put on the side

My RX-8 was a 4-seater. It has that hump in the middle as well.

At least on the RX-8, the centre hump is there to may space for the transmission and exhaust. On rear-biased AWD I could see this happen as well.

Being a student it was perfectly liveable, and the back seats can carry my buddies without issues as long as they are not too tall. On an A7, that shouldn't even be an issue given the size of the car. I have a friend who has an RS7 and it's very spacious. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9d4f54f9d7.jpg

underscore 02-01-2020 12:15 PM

Technically speaking my Celica GTFour seats 5, but the middle person would have to be maybe 3' tall and have no legs.

Really all that matters is your own usage. Do you often have 5 people in your current car? If not then it doesn't matter anyways.

All those guys with the new Civic Type-R can only seat 4.

Stock Type-R's rear bench can only seat two on the side middle is a cubby.

Rx7 FC rear seats are super comfy

dont even need car seats when it comes with dual bassinettes :drunk:

vitaminG 02-02-2020 09:15 AM

I think you can still put a car seat in the middle on the 4 seater. As long as there's child seat anchors there.

EvoFire 02-02-2020 12:51 PM

Pretty much what everyone else has said already, with a car seat you'd be hard pressed to fit 3 across in the back seats.

We've had the in laws in the back seat with the child seat in the X3. It's not ideal and I don't think they want to do that again.

parm104 02-12-2020 06:00 PM

I had a 4 seater coupe for the last 3 years and very rarely had an issue.

I also believe in buying a vehicle for yourself, not to accomodate other people.

If you're a family of 5, it's likely an issue. If you don't have kids, I wouldn't personally purchase a vehicle in anticipation of having friends or other family sitting my vehicle. Get what you like.

Lol it's like I've heard so many times people say I need that extra bedroom for guests to stay in. Dafuq how often are people coming into town and crashing at your place fuck them they can stay in a hotel that be my office or workout room not a spare bedroom that sits most of the time.

The ones telling you that are the ones who want to crash at your place. :lol

Still not as bad as a Mustang or a BRZ.

I really like the RX-7 fastback design. RX-8 trunk is very small with a small opening.
