I personally dealt with a red light ticket many years ago (early 2010's). I ignored it succesfully and never had anything on my record. Was able to renew just fine with ICBC and no mention of it.

But the secret is to succesfully avoid delivery. There were quite a few attempts in a span of 4-6 months after about 2 or so months after I got my ticket in mail. I followed that websites advice.

They will try plenty of tricks to try to serve you. Pretend to be post office and they have a package, and that they will be tomorrow. Camp outside your house trying to get you when you leave/return. Will try your phone number, buzzer, etc. Different phone numbers/unknown/anonymous.

Back then, I lived in an apartment building so obviously that makes it a lot easier to evade vs living in a house where they can just watch your front door and nab you when you leave/return. I was also single, so no risk in maybe getting your kid(s) to call you, then when you show up, serve you (would that be legal? who knows)

As much as ICBC is desperate for revenue, they are not going to hire someone to stalk you 24/7 for a simple ticket.

You should only talk if you personally dealt with this like I did. I never said they will camp 24/7. But they will stay for a few hours during morning and evenings when people generally leave/return home. It also only happened 2 or 3 days during the entire 4 months.

Anyone know if the cameras work in one direction only like the red light only units, or both directions? Also curious if they flash when going off

Around 2 years ago I received a call from someone working for ICBC wanting to serve me a red light ticket. I told him I would be home on Sunday and that he could serve it then. He never showed up, and about 4 months later called again asking when I would be home. I gave him a time and he never showed up again. He called a third time and I ignored it and that was more than a year ago and I haven't heard about it since.

When I renewed my drivers license recently the ICBC worker said the ticket shows up on the system but I don't have to pay it or acknowledge it because it wasn't served to me and it didn't stop me from renewing my insurance or DL.

They flash. When I got caught it was from behind, not sure if they would do from the front since I assume they want to show the red light in the picture but who knows. BC has front plates so technically they can?

It would capture from behind since you have to consider people from, say, Alberta travelling in BC.

When I got one in my RX-8 in Victoria, the photo shows the rear of the car.

I don't think red light/speed cameras can be enforced for out of province. I remember them saying they were losing tons of money on Port Mann tolled bridge with people out of province since they had no means to make them pay.

I think this is true also if you get a red light/speed camera ticket in let's say AB or SK and you are from BC.

I know people in ON say that they don't need to be personally served to have their registration denied if they have a camera ticket, vs BC where it's necessary to be served if ignored. So it depends on the province, and there is no way to prevent someone out of province to renew their registration/insurance or enforce the ticket for out of province.
